It's June 23-25 in LA...

Is anyone going?
Is it the type of event where you just talk to people? I wanna know since I'm not exactly knowledgable in this area - I just want to see high end stuff and how it performs/ what workflow you need.
Plus I've never been to a trade event like this so it might be cool.

Ryan:
I'll be there on Saturday.
Cinegear is probably the best industry show out there in many ways. It's much lower-key than most, has more of a backyard barbeque vibe than a trade show (assuming your backyard is full of the highest tech imaginable). It's getting bigger each year but it's still great. Every high-end tool you can imagine is represented--all of the major manufacturers. You can just gaze at the gear or ask questions, whatever you like. If you've ever wondered what it's like to operate a Technocrane or what all of that gear you see on behind-the-scenes DVD's looks like up close--this is your show!

Let me know how it goes guys, I was wanting to go this year but I've got summer school to do. I'll most likely be going next year since there wouldn't be any classes I'd need to do during that summer.

Well I went today - lots of free stuff - I got (amongst a lot of other things) a bunch of back issues of American Cinematographer and a Dalsa shirt that has a drawing of the Origin on it to show all the kids how big time I am. Got a free creative handbook and a hcd blu-book production directory.
It was fun. I went to some of the seminars - the panavision genesis and bandpro/sony ones. The panavision one was pretty boring - I didn't know they were THAT high end when I decided to go, but whatever. The bandpro/sony event was lame - just comparing some footage, for some reason I thought they'd talk about cameras...
