What is the concensus on the proper cleaning tape?
The manual says to use a JVC though I note there isn't one for sale at B&H.
There are many discussions of the wet vs dry lubricants on tapes but I'm unclear how and if that applies to cleaning tapes as well.

Hi Daniel,
I bought a Panasonic cleaning tape last year and can attest that it does work with the HD-100 and BR50 deck. It has been rare to need it and frankly I've only needed to use the cleaning tape with rented ProHD equipment.

What is the concensus on the proper cleaning tape?
I have both a Maxell cleaner (from Circuit City) and a Panasonic one. Both seem fine. Have been using Panasonic DV tapes with the cam.

Hi Gang,
Hi Stephen, when do you use it?
I occasionally see a drop out on my tapes, very rare, should I try it.
Daniel I bought the JVC from their website...

The advice I have heard most commonly is to use whatever cleaning tape is offered by the same brand of tape you are using, whether it be JVC, Sony, etc.

It can't hurt Tom. I'm a big advocate of using only JVC tape in the camera and deck but if you rent or you have mixed tapes going over the heads, I recommend using the head cleaning tape as needed. I believe the manual states 20 hours.
