You are the best DORK I've seen in a while. Being a DORK myself, I always enjoy seing what other DORKS around the world are doing while no one is watching.

Also, your Letus footage is the BEST I've seen so far. It's nice to see stuff shot, not just with the hardware to make filmic video, but with the knowledge and use of shot composition to get filmic video.

Your footage has sold me on the Letus. Now if someone would post phonetics on how to pronounce it and Q's name :)

BTW, what camera are you using?

Cool, thanks a lot for the footage. Super helpful, since I'm considering the Letus Flipped Enhanced. It's especially useful to see those low light shots.

Could you share:
1) What camera did you use?
2) What sort of color correction did you do? (magic bullet, nattress, etc.)

This would help a lot in evaluating the image.

The camera that was used was the Panasonic DVX100. (original) 24pa settings, mostly auto white balance and auto iris.

The only vidz with color correction are the last 2. The second drummer video "Beverly Studio Sessions" has a couple shots that have been brightened with brightness and contrast and a couple shots with a "dreamy filter" (You'll probably be able to tell which ones.)

And the "Jenny" music video has a basic magic bullet preset. All the other videos are straight off the camera.

I seriously need to know whether the letus flipped enhanced or the letus35 xl is the "best" choice. How do they differ? I have noticed that many clips feature a lot of edge softness with the xl, is that the case?

You mentioned that you're using a 1.8 lens... I have a (non-flip) Letus35a, and I found that the lens selection makes a huge difference. Getting a Canon 1.4 lens (about $50) changed everything, even in daylight. I don't know whether it was just the speed, or if it was other optical features of that particular 1.4 lens, too, but it was really noticeable.

Regarding the Letus35XL compared to the flip enhanced I really have no idea. I'm pretty sure that If you're shooting on a XL1, XL2, or XLH1 the Letus35XL would be the best call because it was designed for those cameras. Again, I shoot on the original DVX100 and the flip enhanced does the job just fine.

Holger - For the Indoor Low Light test the iris was at open the whole time. The gain setting was at Low.

Nick - In my opinion the best "looking" videos are "newyork2.mov" and "beverly2.mov" These were just handheld stuff manual focusing with a Canon 50mm 1.8 lens. Shot on the DVX100 in 24pa mode letterbox. I then captured all the footage from both days straight to Final Cut Pro HD on my mac mini. My FCP settings were "DV-NTSC 24p (23.98) Advanced Pulldown Removal." I just layed down a track and cut the footage up. No filters, CC or anything. I made them specifically for forums like this, so pretty much what you see is what you get. Exported them cropped with the H.264 codec and here they are... I edited the other NY video on my PC with Adobe Premiere, same kind of workflow but IMO the end result (uncompressed) wasn't as "sweet." stil very close though

I am new to this forum and just got the Flipped Enhanced, and it seems you have more experience with the Letus. Nice footage you had! Quick question, when you screwed on the Letus, was it screwed on tight and the orientation of the screen was aligned to the aspect of the camera? or did you have to leave it loose in order to get the right alignment?

Mine came loose as well and it was a suprise to me. What I did to solve my problem was to first screw on the threads nice and snug. Then I slipped the adapter on, aligned it, made a couple marks to reference the position. Then I took it off and glued the 2 pieces together where I made the marks and let it dry over night. In the morning it was nice and strong and threaded on in the correct position.

Thanks for the prompt repy. SO does it mean your Letus has a adpater ring on it permanently? I probably need to use the Letus on multiple cameras, so dont think i can do what you did.

Put the adapter on until tight, detach the ring from the adapter so it stay on camera's thread. Reinsert with right orientation. You need to do this process every time you change to different camera, thanks.

So i screw on the Letus Flipped Enhanced to the camera either directly(my letus is a 72mm) or using a stepdown ring, and when you say 'detach the ring' are you refering to the silver screw thread ring of the Letus Flipped Enhanced? if so how to do this? Or am i misunderstanding you?

I finally had the guts to remove the 2 silver screws on the screw thread to the camera end and gave it a hard twist... it came off.. now i reposition the orientation of the focusing screen... hope this was what you meant!

They only thing now is that there are no holes for the 2 screws to lock the screw thread end based on the new orientation, but it is still a tight fit for now, just more concerned for the future if i keep re-orientating the thread end, it will come loose.

The 72mm aluminum ring stay on the short black tube without any screw. Try to detach the 2. I found that when I put the Letus on my camera, I can detach it easily. Remove the screws then drill another 2 holes (size 3/32) is another way of doing it if you prefer and you will need a set of 2 holes for each camera you are going to use. The first method will take less time and is recommended to change from camera to camera. Thanks.
