Thats excellent news. Wow! lets hope that it isnt nearly as expensive as the camera itself. Most good housing I've seen are that price due to low demand.

I am very excited about what this little gem is capable of and the housing just adds much more possibilities. Unfortunatelly I am a little dissapointed with my unit and lets hope Sanyo doesnt lose me as a future customer.

Do you know who is manufacturing it...? I talked with the ones in the US who made one for the previous Sanyo and they said that Sanyo had not asked them to make one for the HD1....?

I was in Hong Kong and browsed through the local dive shops.

One of the shop owners showed me an e-mail annoucing the availability by Epoque Japan towards the end of July. They will e-mail me the final details and quoted the lead time from Japan as 4 days....guess where I will be in early August....

If the previous housings are anything to go by this one should be below 500 USD.

No way.. I called them about a month ago and they swore there were no HD1 housing in the pipeline. Go Figure.! Not that it changes anything, just wanted to get my order in early.

Well with this in mind I will go and wait expectantly for the housing to come out. (smile)

Can you still turn the camera off while in the housing? I thought the flip lcd screen doubled as power switch.

There's an on/off switch also, which I tend to use.

I'm not sure what's accessible when it's inside this rig, but they claim you can use all controls.

Yes, all the controls are accessible inside the case, and so on/off switch. I bought the case about 2 weeks ago, but I haven't used yet.

some pictures please!! anyone at ces is the HD2 physically identical to the HD1 IE will it fit in this shell ?

I ordered the waterproof housing from the following site. Delivered within a week.

You can do almost everything while the camera is in the case, including Power On/Off, Zoom, etc. Note that operation of some of the functions is slightly different since when you press or move a button on the housing, it has to press or move a button on the camera.

From the manual, here are the functions that are not available:

- using built-in flask of camera
- voice recorder
- wind noise reduction function
- remote control function
- set button cannot be moved up - so can't delete a movie clip, etc.

thanks! it sure looks identical. hopefully it can be confirmed the waterproof housing works by march. I figure to get this and I want to be able to use the HD2 underwater (were the improved low light will come in handy)

Hopefully someone was thoughtful enough to toss an SD card into the critter so we can see if they fixed the Jaggies etc..

I put mine in a big pickle jar it worked great. I never shot more than a couple of minutes. Maybe if I put the remote in ziplocs I could control it externally start/stop/zoom etc.,?
