Adam Ball January 24th, 2007, 12:27 AM Howdy all,
I've recently finished a trailer for an upcoming documentary on the Garifuna of Honduras (Manali) and would be thankful for any feedback.

ps -- any thoughts on our website would also be appreciated (It's new too!)
Henrik Holmberg January 24th, 2007, 06:03 AM This looks really cool! Can't wait to see more.
Mike Horrigan January 24th, 2007, 08:47 AM Thanks, I've added mpeg's to go along with the .wmv files, but the .mpg file came out looking pretty bad in comparison. The file size is much larger as well.
I'll work on getting some better mpeg files up and running soon.
Thanks again,
Mike
Mikko Lopponen January 26th, 2007, 02:24 AM Here's a new clip:
http://hmcindie.pp.fi/illu
They were shooting it for film and I did some behind the scenes and my own cut of the fight which can be seen at the end of the clip.
Alvaro Nannicini January 27th, 2007, 07:13 PM These are 2 URL of backstage on my web site that I setup in progressive download for WMPlayer, encoder WMV VHS Quality 320x240 400 Kbps.

Its enought 2 minutes each one but its important if you replay effect, advices and problem here or by email.
I will do the same about your video and your site, bye bye, Alvaro.

Raul Rooma January 30th, 2007, 06:33 AM Very nice work Mikko!!
Mark Howells January 30th, 2007, 03:13 PM Hi. This is a short I made for a 60 second film competition on the theme of "celebration". I was having a bit of fun !
http://savefile.com/files/454071
And for all those with no patience, a much poorer quality version:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZ-_2UBuEqs
Michael Pulcinella January 30th, 2007, 03:35 PM Very funny! And skillfully done!
James Duffy January 30th, 2007, 11:37 PM This was a short I hacked together for a video contest. It was my first time using the XH-A1, and as such I recorded a lot of the images underexposed since the LCD makes the image appear brighter than it really is. There are a lot of small things I would have done better if I didn't have to make this deadline for the contest, but all in all I think it came out decent. I learned a lot this first time out with my camera, and am sure my next production will come out better.
EDIT: Here's a youtube link for ease of viewing -- http://youtube.com/watch?v=ESCDUrhs38k

Comments and feedback welcome.
Chris Sinista January 31st, 2007, 12:01 AM I thought it was orignal and a very valiant effort good job.
Estebe Verde January 31st, 2007, 02:58 AM Very Nice!
Not quite as a good as Pirates.... but close! :D

Enjoy!
Mark Howells January 31st, 2007, 04:43 PM I understand Savefile is acting up again. It had problems a while ago with it's server but I thought it had been sorted. Shame because the site was easy and well constructed.
Here is another link to a larger upload which is more representative of the quality (Youtube compression is awful !). Hope this works. I would much rather people view this download, it's only 15MB. Thanks.

Tao-ming Lin February 1st, 2007, 12:14 AM Lady X: Clay Soldiers will be airing nationwide in Taiwan on February 3rd and 19th at 11:30pm on CTS. Looks like we're goin' legit.
If you're not in Taiwan (and I'm pretty sure you're not), you can still watch it on Youtube at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHVZC1QV9tE&eurl=
I'm still editing the feature. It's called "Paradigm X" (for now, anyway, unless we can think of a better title). Hopefully it will be done and out the door by this summer.
Rob Lohman February 1st, 2007, 04:13 AM Great to see the longer version, Lady X lives! :)
Michael Pulcinella February 2nd, 2007, 10:04 AM This is a short promo I've recently completed for my cousin. He is a wedding photographer based in the Philadelphia area. We are trying to showcase his rather informal approach to wedding photography, which he feels is an antidote to the usual stiff and boring photo shoots that everyone has come to expect.
Feedback on any aspect of the video is welcome.
Thanks,
Mike

Justin Carlson February 2nd, 2007, 04:23 PM Not sure if this is the right section but I just finished my first Teaser/Trailer for my local church. I've just started to get into videography in December and want to start doing it more often.
Any feedback you guys could give me would be quite appreciated. Thanks!

Btw... their website isn't up yet. It's still in the making. :)
Lee Wilson February 2nd, 2007, 04:25 PM Very rare hatted robin caught on my Canon HV10 !

Alex Sprinkle February 2nd, 2007, 04:49 PM am i missing something? I'm only seeing advertisements everywhere.
Monday Isa February 2nd, 2007, 09:10 PM Hey Justin,
The best place for this type of vid would b in the "show your work" section near the bottom of the forum main page. I loved it a lot. Didn't really pay detailed attention to the audio as it just plays from the speakers of my laptop, but the video, editing, and the script for the teaser was thought out well. Near the end where you have like six different phrases on the screen it just gets crowded and I can't read all that info in that brief time. i would break it up and have 2 at max pop up. thanks for sharing

Marlon Torres February 4th, 2007, 12:25 AM Hello folks, I finally shot some footage for my short film Junipero: The Last Son of Celestie. It is a prequel of my previous short film "Junipero" which can be seen here: http://www.citizencine.com/junipero/

Jimi King February 4th, 2007, 12:34 AM Nice shots dude. Can't wait to see the real thing.
Is that XL2?
35mm Adapter?
Keep them coming.
Marlon Torres February 4th, 2007, 12:52 AM Nice shots dude. Can't wait to see the real thing.
Is that XL2?
35mm Adapter?
Keep them coming.
It's a Canon XH-A1 (I love it!) and a Redrock M2 35mm adapter. Glad you like 'em!
Jimi King February 4th, 2007, 09:52 PM But you shot Junipero with XL2 right? That was awesome.
So which camera you like better A1 or XL2?
Marlon Torres February 4th, 2007, 11:02 PM But you shot Junipero with XL2 right? That was awesome.
So which camera you like better A1 or XL2?
That is correct. I shot Junipero with an XL2 with the stock lens. I recently upgraded to an XH-A1 with a 35mm M2. I'm in love with the A1, yes, more than the XL2.
Danny Jones February 5th, 2007, 11:04 AM Sweet!! What did you edit with? How long was the shoot. Great work. I notice some Manhattan shots, did you need permit?
Marcin Wilczek February 5th, 2007, 11:13 AM Hi Danny,
Everything is done in FCP and After Effects.
I have been shooting for 2,5 days,
If the camera is handheld you don't need permit to shoot.
Jimi King February 5th, 2007, 06:59 PM Hmm.I can't wait to see the finished product.
I have access to XL2 and after seeing Junipero I decided to use it but now I think I will wait for your thing.
Michael Pulcinella February 6th, 2007, 03:28 PM Beautiful! Confident. Dynamic. Every shot a gem. Images compliment the content perfectly. Top notch! Inspiring!
Michael Bernstein February 6th, 2007, 07:19 PM So, I made these Ten Films in Ten Weeks. I posted them all online (http://www.amplecatnap.com), and now I want to have a party.
I'll be showing the Ten Films in amazing full NTSC resolution on the big screen at the Millennium Film Workshop, 66 East 4th Street between Bowery and 2nd Avenue in Manhattan, at 8pm sharp on Friday, February 9th.
Come see!
Closest subway stations are the 2nd Avenue F and the Broadway-Lafayette 6 (and D) stops.
I'll be adding a tiny bit of bonus material, and total running time should be about sixty-five minutes.
(I'm asking for a $5 donation to defray screening room expenses, but if for some reason you can't afford that, come anyway.)
Michael
Werner Wesp February 7th, 2007, 05:13 AM http://users.telenet.be/wespproductions/new-page-9.htm
Feel free to tell me what you think. I've been experimenting with web-codecs, but finally I found something that should play rather fine with most. I'm still looking for a solution to stream the video that preserves more of the original HD quality - so any help on this is welcome...
Mike Horrigan February 7th, 2007, 08:23 AM Something was wrong with it in my browser. I was getting a small 4x3 window and everything to the right seemed to be cut off.
Using Firefox.
EDIT: Played fine in Explorer.
Also, the music seemed a little over the top for what you were showing. The footage was very nice though.
Just my 2 cents.
Mike
Andy Graham February 7th, 2007, 04:26 PM werner , i'm curious to know how you got a true 2:35:1 file?. I assume you are shooting in HDV 16:9 and doing something to it in post or in the export.
Could you run us through your process?
Andy.
Marlon Torres February 7th, 2007, 05:23 PM Glad I could help out in your decision making :)
Hugues Wisniewski February 8th, 2007, 01:30 AM Hi all,
I'm reviving this old thread just to say that Headshot was selected at the Hollywood DV Festival (http://www.hollywooddvfestival.com/film.php?id=680&user=c6b4d5f8d670e4194d9ce93ec0bb5569) in March.
It will be shown at the Fairfax Cinema Theater in Hollywood, California on March 26th 2007.
That's great news, just wanted to share the info.
Rasmus Larsen February 8th, 2007, 07:57 AM Hey.
When the manager accidentaly shoots the actor in the head and says:"Are you ok?" - thats quite funny.
Chris Hurd February 8th, 2007, 08:58 AM Hi Michael, I wish I was in the City, as I'd love to drop by and check this out. Please take a few pictures! Thanks for the invitation and hope it goes great for you. Best regards,
Werner Wesp February 8th, 2007, 10:13 AM Yes indeed, shot in native 16/9 (720 25p). In post (vegas 7) it is cropped - obviously you need to check frame by frame if you need to change the portion to crop in order to get the right framing... Finally, the end result is an 1280x544 uncompressed file.
Ray Sigmond February 8th, 2007, 10:45 AM Hey Guys:
I didn't shoot this with my DVX, however I wanted to share this with you.

Randy Boose February 8th, 2007, 04:59 PM looks good, had the feel of a nooma video.
Bruce Mitchell February 8th, 2007, 11:16 PM I'm a newb at this so any constructive criticism is more than welcome.
http://www.thehdepot.com/demo1hi.wmv (High Res, 1280x720, 40MB)

Thanks,
Bruce...
Chris Barcellos February 8th, 2007, 11:26 PM Bruce:
Nice !! Hey post what you shot it with. Also, take note of UWOL challenge in the Under Water Over Land section of this board.... We will be seeing another in couple of weeks....
Bruce Mitchell February 9th, 2007, 12:16 AM Oh yeah, duh, that would help. All those shots were with a Sony HVR-Z1U, standard lens, cheap tripod, edited in Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 with no effects/color correction/sharpening/etc. Thinking about it again I guess I should try to make everything "pop" a little more so perhaps I should go back and color correct/sharpen/etc.
Thanks for the info on the contest - I'll check it out.
Bruce...
Chris Barcellos February 9th, 2007, 01:40 AM Popped just fine on my monitor. I'm shooting an FX1, but learning a bit about it and starting to do some of this outdoor stuff too... Nice to see such great stuff out of the Sony!!
Sean Doherty February 9th, 2007, 11:15 AM The Estes Park Film Festival (EPFF) is proud to announce the addition of the historic Stanley Hotel as a screening venue for their second annual event this September 14-16. Independent short films in the Suspense/Horror genre will be showcased at the Stanley’s famous Concert Hall on Sunday, September 16th. The Stanley Hotel is famous among film aficionados for its inspirational role in Stephen King's novel "The Shining".
Known for its architecture and magnificent setting, the Stanley Hotel has been an Estes Park landmark since 1909. The hotel has been featured in film and television as one of America’s most haunted hotels, with numerous stories from visitors and staff.
The EPFF is headquartered at the historic Park Theatre in downtown Estes Park. Both the Stanley Hotel and Park Theatre are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
“Independent filmmakers now have a unique opportunity to present their films at both of these one-of-a-kind venues.” says Sean Doherty, Co-Director of the EPFF. “Imagine the excitement for the filmmaker, seeing their work screened at these landmarks of cinematic history.”
Last year’s EPFF was an incredible success, with over 1500 movie-goers enjoying 35 independent films from across the country. This year’s event will feature an expanded line-up of independent feature films, documentaries, short films, and student films, with an awards gala on the final night. The Estes Park Film Festival is dedicated to providing a platform for filmmakers from around the world to screen their newest productions in the relaxing and creative atmosphere of Estes Park, Colorado. The goal of the EPFF is to entertain, inspire, and advance a greater appreciation of independent film. The Estes Park Film Festival will also serve as a fundraising event to help renovate and restore The Historic Park Theatre to its original cinematic elegance.
For more info about the festival or to submit your own film, visit: www.estesparkfilm.com
Juan Batres February 9th, 2007, 11:46 AM the audio is crazy,i really love it,i dont understand anything but like the way is narrated,so intense, and the shots are great, the only one thing that didnt convinced me is when she shots the guy in the head, her hand moved a little too late, but other than that i give it a 10,congrats man! only one question, where did you use photoshop? just in the gun shot effect?
FC Rabbath February 9th, 2007, 03:26 PM Hi there, My name is Freddy, and I am new here on the forums. Looks like you all have a neat set up here. I just thought i would say hi and show you my latest short film.

Fred
Hope you enjoy it. :)
NOTE: Music is temp til' the composer is done.
Juan Batres February 9th, 2007, 03:41 PM wow, very, very good for only a month or two, what camera did you use?and the audio is it actually from the footage?or you recorded separetly?cause it sound very clear for being inside the car, good work man!!!
Juan Batres February 9th, 2007, 03:44 PM me too,too bad i have to work, but if you ever have another screening, please dorp me an email, jblackroom@gmail.com thanks!
Michael Bernstein February 9th, 2007, 11:59 PM The party was a blast. Sadly, I took no pictures. I spent too much time noisereducing, transcoding, and cheesebuying, so when the final bits rattled through the ol' video projector, I just wanted to drink with my friends, old and new.
The movies seemed to be well received, and I may have another screening in my future. In any case, I highly recommend the folks at Millennium Film Workshop (http://www.millenniumfilm.org); they're very nice, and the screening room is great for the video- (and film-) maker on a budget.
Michael
