Yeah, I flew up there for the weekend for a family reunion and only took 2 carry on bags which I could not fit my tripod in... as for the music, I got that song from http://www.shockwave-sound.com.

Yep... paintball... the "sport"... where we shoot little .68 caliber balls at 200mph and 15-20 balls per second... yes... per second... although I don't really consider it a sport, it's hard to understand but I've been playing for 6 years and there's nothing really like it... it's not so much the equipment we use or how we play... it's just the feeling that when you're at a field playing or even watching, you're in a completely different place. You honestly forget about everything that has been happening in your life, good or bad. Nothing else matters, and the only people that really understand it are the ones that are out there every weekend playing... there's nothing else like it...

Now that I'm done with that speech, I'll show you guys some stuff...

First videos were shot with a $25 tripod and $700 Canon HV10... pretty amazing camera for the money...

** Explicit Language... probably ** (I have no clue what videos or what songs do have language, but I'm 99% sure it's there)

Sweet 7 Video... it was raining... a lot (Washington weather)
http://www.lousyheros.com/videos/sweethq.wmv Pretty compressed unfortunately

Battleground Practice Video... raining a bit
http://www.lousyheros.com/videos/bgphq.wmv

Battleground Practice Video 2... Sunny!
http://www.lousyheros.com/videos/bgp2hq.wmv

Sweet 7 Video 2...
http://www.lousyheros.com/videos/sweet72hq.wmv

Now these were shot with an HDR-FX7 and 501HDV Manfrotto Pod (Forgot which legs)... My new setup :)

This is the "Smooth" slow motion feature, unfortunately it's at 1/4 the normal HD resolution
http://www.lousyheros.com/videos/xpslslo.wmv

This is a 2minute clip of some shots thrown together, I have 10 tapes of footage to go through so this is just the start
http://www.lousyheros.com/videos/xpslpat.wmv
*** My favorite stuff so far... ***

The 2 HDR-FX7 videos were not edited as much as the other ones, they were just to show off the new camera...

I have more videos... some aren't worth posting but if you want more I'll see what I can find

Yes both cameras have been shot, in the lense (with UV Filter ontop) and in the front/sides... both work fine... the HV10 had rain damage through the microphone ontop which canon fixed, and the HDR-FX7's tripod fell over and the LCD hinge cracked, sending that to Sony tomorrow :) Paintballs are brittle enough that they don't do any damage...

You have posted 300megs clips! that's a bit large for my internet account, (Here we are limited in bandwidth) therefore I just looked at one of the fx7 samples.
Must say the image lookes pretty amazing, at first it looked like a digital animation film, really sharp and very nice colours. I heared that the fx7 is not so good in low light, a problem more hd cams have. If it were good in lowlight I even would have bought it as a "weddingcam", it looks quite similar to a vx2100 which I use now, only my vx can't produce images like this.

When your fx7 fell, was it unattended? you take a lot of risk which such camera's in those conditions, I would never go in there unless I had a special cover for the camera and something that I could put in front of the lens.
Also for rainy conditions you have special covers which keep the camera dry.

Joe Busch
July 9th, 2007, 03:24 PM
Rainy conditions I used cardboard and duct-tape, I bought a Kata cover for the FX7 which has already been shot multiple times, does a good job.

Then you just get a couple UV filters, 1 for the camera and then an extra as a backup in-case the other one breaks... just a risk you take with filming paintball... the cameras stand direct impacts just fine, I caught one on the inside of the lenshood which sprayed on the filter, but no direct hits on the lens of either camera.

If you want smaller files, just replace the "H" with an "M" I posted the 1280 x 720 files, but I have 720 x 408 uploaded which are half the file size or less...

Those are the "high" quality files... if you want "medium" quality... just replace M in the filename... I have 30something vidoes on there...

720p60 actually...

http://stage6.divx.com/user/jackvancouver/video/1369755/Cultus-Lake-in-High-Definition-(720p60)

Shot with an HDR-HC7 on manual settings on a Manfrotto 190XB tripod with a 701RC2 head.

If you can't play the video in the player, you should press the download button next to the play button in the viewer box before you start the video.

Are you on drugs? Seriously. Keep taking the medication.

I must admit it made me laugh just by virtue of its complete inanity. What the hell is going on. Genius !!!. However, although I loved the ridiculousness of it all and laughed my socks off, the film wasn't the best representation of what the dvx is capable of. The audio was pretty poor and you need to invest in some lighting (youtube doesn't help).

No, it's not razer sharp 1080p and the source is HDV, But it's my first attempt at 1080p encoding and 60i to 24p with the pseudo motion blur famous in many films in the past.

Shot with an HDR-HC7 on a Manfrotto 701RC2 head.

As always, if it doesn't work in the player, click the download button next to the big play button before you start the video. after the download is finished, rename the file extension to .avi to view in windows media player.

Even from an editing standpoint they're not overly interesting... leaving the Xbox live chatter is annoying, especially with music overtop...

Game footage + Music Video spliced together with a few random overlays... and a ton of blur at the beginning... I dunno what you used to edit but meh...

This forum is more for people who actually film and edit their work, not halo montages...

During my divorce years ago unreal tournament 2003 had been a very loyal companion for many nights to get rid off all the stress :D so I understand what you guys find so great about gaming and making videos about it. Only here I think it will not be that easy to find an interested audience like Joe allready pointed out.
I did however enjoyed volume 3 and 4, bringing back memories when I was blasting my enemies (they all looked like my ex ;)) to pieces. 'You bleed better then you shoot! was my favorite phraze :D
The past 2 years I rarely play a game, just now and then UT2004 but I get really beaten up by, probably guys like you, on all these gaming servers. :D

Don't get me wrong, I've probably played more games than you could imagine... I started playing computer games when I was 4 on our 386... had a 486 in my room when I was 6 with command and conquer... I'm just saying this is DVi... Digital Video Information...

There are places for Halo Montages... it isn't here...

And I never understood why it was a "montage"... everyone called their halo "videos" montages... and I've never seen a real good one, some people have made some amazing videos with UT2004 and Quake 3... and they were never called montages...never seen anything similar out of Halo...

Either way, the editing was too simple imo... I only watched #4 though...

Well, I agree with you too, I refered to "enjoying it" only to the game scenes as I allways find them fun to watch.

Looks great Mike. Camera work is very solid, and plenty of color. Christine seems like a very compelling interview subject and makes some interesting points. It is a worthwhile story, though at times I was confused about about the relationships and whether or not she and Dave were parents themselves.

From that clip the only criticism I would offer is that the audio is a little quiet and room-y on some clips and nice and clear on others. It also seems like we (the viewer) need more context to make sense of it, but that goes without saying since it is an excerpt...

Nicely done though.

No that wasn't planned!!! Both driver and navigator were pick up in saftey boats. The water was drained out of the motor new oil and fuel were added, the boat fired right up! The boat was racing two weeks later at the next race!

We're a small group of people working on a zero-budget production, aiming to make a blockbuster-quality feature film, shot with an HV20. Are we completely insane? Maybe, you can judge for yourself by checking out our weekly 'making of' clips that start today. We're about to wrap up pre-production and we'll start shooting soon.

John, I've been lurking these forums for a fews days now. I registered and now I can finally post. I am enjoying your work. It is what it is for the clients you have and I'm sure they're happy with the outcome. I read that you had an intern in NY. Great. May I suggest you send your reel to some of the Hip Hop labels here in NYC and I bet you'll start getting calls for work. Get your price list tight....if you haven't already done so and get ready to negotiate.

Overall, great work for your clients. The shorts and skits are funny as well.

Hey everyone,

This is my first post in this forum, mostly because i'm nervous. This is my second completed short film, my first time using someone else's script. I think it turned out decently, and the writer was pleased.

However, I am looking for some feedback from the folks here at the forum.

The sound level is really low on most of the VO, just a warning for you - might need to turn your speakers up to hear it.

Hey everyone,

Just finished a new video for a Midwest artist (Kalizion). Also was able to work with some really good talent, old friends, and family. We all worked hard on this project. So hope everyone enjoys watching the video. This is our first music video from start to finish. We have done others but never all within the company. I had lighting question before and many of you on the form gave me feed back thank you.

Here is the link to the video:
Artist: Kalizion "Ready" Video

Hello, This is my first post. I was curious if anyone can recommend the best way to show videos and still images via a hosting service on the web. I'm looking for good quality without a lot of ads, or no ads, and not too pricey. I'm an independent video/photo artist who hasn't put work online yet and wants to do it the right way from the beginning.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Beautiful footage and nice depth. I also work with the M2 w/ the HVX and the light loss IS a big problem. During some of the shots with you and the lady it seems a little too dark. (or maybe that's the style you are trying to achieve, i'm not quite sure.) Perhaps increase aperture (logically :) ) or even use a reflector to fill in the side without enough light to balance the shot. Great looking footage, however!

Don't mind the audio, my film guy didn't know how to work the lavalier mic so we're re-shooting my wife.

What do you think of the quality, lighting, etc?

Sean Walsh

Ricky,

Forget the camera work, your wife is a great presenter!

It's a great piece of direct communication - and it really brings a website to life...I'm constantly surprised why so few websites do it.

Lighting worked for me - as did the plain white background. The mixes are a little hit 'n miss because she moves a bit in the frame...how about a dissolve to white and then back again to make the transitions a little easier on the eye.

the lighting works for me. Clean and simple. And I agree, your wife is very natural in front of the camera.

Chris Medico
July 21st, 2007, 03:57 PM
I think it looks pretty good.

The transitions are distracting.

Try a very short white transition in place of the disolves. That will make it look like a flash and go well with the background.

I think a bit more dynamic camera moves with more cuts would increase the pace and excitement of the video. Avoid going full "roller coaster" style like the reality shows do. It would be too much.

If you have a steadycam try to do some smooth moves from left to right and back while she looks ahead. Intercut that stuff with the basic straight shot in short segments using the white flash transition. I think that would make a good looking video with lots of interest.

I agree that she has a good presence on camera. I think you should keep her. ;)

Thank you! I'm glad I could make you laugh even without sound, feels like quite an accomplishment.

Yeah, we're working on the edit, but wanted to just get the trailer out of the way before diving in, just to get something out there.

We shot for 6 weekends, so 12 days for a 27 page script. We have TONS of footage to go through and piece together. As much as I'm looking forward to it, it's also so overwhelming... god help me when it's a feature, haha!

Nick Harris
July 24th, 2007, 12:34 AM
Oh, about the guns... we bought them online (I'd have to check my records for the specific website). But they are classified as "blank" guns. They are technically real, have all the mechanisms to fire, but the barrel is completely solid, there' no hole. They came with Orange tips, but we carved them out.

That allowed us to some smoke and fire, and a little kick when they fired. The hardest thing was resisting the urge to constantly pop out the cylinder, spin it, and snap it back in. When guns are around, I'm perpetually 7 years old, haha!

Chris Harris
July 24th, 2007, 07:29 PM
I like the premise of the story, it's pretty original and funny. I hate this phrase, but it looks like a "feel-good" movie. Plus, your actors seem well rehearsed and your shots are great. Keep it up, I can't wait to see the whole thing!
