Robert Morane May 22nd, 2007, 10:34 AM Hi Mark,
funny I saw your clip on lonelyplanet.tv last week .
I enjoy your site and will be a regular visitor. Your project remind me of http://vagabonding.com/ , you should have a look.
Keep the good work and please let us know about the specific of your gear and some of your technics.
Marcus Marchesseault May 22nd, 2007, 10:53 AM I saw it and you on the Sci-Fi channel. Their website is not really loading for me, but I happened to be able to catch it on TV. I felt the drama and really liked the scenes establishing the control "Arphid" (SP?) had over society. On the other hand, I laughed inappropriately when the hero threw off the attacker and looked up and yelled in celebration. It sounded like he was gargling which I found quite humorous. Congratulations for getting some national attention!
Mike Gorski May 23rd, 2007, 08:40 AM Being an A&P aircraft technician I thought I would share what its like to be on an observation flight on a Cessna 172. The first link is to download the file and not suffer any recompression. It's about 20 MB. The second link is a youtube.com link pick your poison.

Michael Pulcinella May 23rd, 2007, 12:23 PM Thanks to everyone who commented on my earlier workout clip from my bodybuilding documentary Raising the Bar 2. With your suggestions I definitely improved upon it.
Now, here it is, the trailer for the completed RTB2! The DVDs will be available shortly, but in the meantime I would like to know your opinions as to the effectiveness of this trailer.

On the other hand, I laughed inappropriately when the hero threw off the attacker and looked up and yelled in celebration. It sounded like he was gargling which I found quite humorous. Thanks. What was happening was that he was having flashbacks at the brink of defeat and it gave him the power to over come Arphid and throw him off. So that scream was like a hiyaaaa in karate or something similar. It was supposed to be a burst of power he was feeling. I know its a little disjointed but we had 3 weeks to do it working day jobs and it had to be 6 minutes long so it was hard to get everything in. We plan on trying a longer version some time this year thats more put together and no background effects.
Neo Castillo May 23rd, 2007, 11:05 PM I like it well done. The audio seems a bit poor but that could be a product of Youtube encoding.
Phil Kay May 24th, 2007, 02:49 PM Very nice black and white - what camera did you use? How did you get the rich mono look?
Mike Gorski May 24th, 2007, 04:11 PM I shot the entire video with the Panasonic AG-DVC30. The image is a mix between scene file settings and a little tweaking in post. I use FCE and just used a few image control filters.
Chris C. Collins May 24th, 2007, 04:43 PM A documentary on the man responsible for the root of all life and prosperity. Air, we breathe him, we rely on him, we take him for granted! Hear his side of the story tonight.

In this mockumentary me and and my friends tried to attack the terrible cliches of news report interviews and at the same time emphasize that they really don't care about who they are reporting about or what they're saying during the interview.
That, or 2 kids were rushed to find a funny idea for a mock documentary for their film class in high school.
Your call.
Oliver Reik May 25th, 2007, 05:17 AM Hi Mike,
entering the 3rd dimension is magic - you brought a strong reminder of this to my computer. :-)
Beautiful movie - I really enjoyed it!

Michael Pulcinella May 25th, 2007, 08:52 AM Youtube is what it is...we do that best that we can do until something better comes along.
Mike Gorski May 25th, 2007, 02:05 PM Thanks for the kind words. I hope to post more. Right now I have no camcorder since I sold it to go HD. Now I'm in a debate on what to invest in. Thanks again.
Gorski
Cole McDonald May 25th, 2007, 04:33 PM It's been long enough since I started, I'm still not finished by any stretch of the imagination, but here's proof that it's coming along...Just an assembly edit so far, 45 mins, placards for the scenes I haven't gotten to yet (it contains spoilers if you want to see just the finished product):
http://www.yafiunderground.com/Video/AJ-2007-05-25.mov
it requires quicktime...it's compressed with h.264 codec. it's 34Mb or so
I haven't put together all of the off screen voice stuff yet...and other stuff you can see the recording setup for doing VO work. Painfully rough...nothing to critique here yet. Keep in mind it had a budget of $250 (mostly tape stock for the 50 tapes it took to shoot it, the rest was crepe hair and bottled water)
Play the drinking game (maybe a shiner bock ;) )...everytime Joe has a fake beard take a drink...he shaved in the middle of the shoot and we had to replace his beard, so half the time it's real, half the time it's fake.
Mark Williams May 26th, 2007, 08:06 AM Here is a little montage of shots I put together while vacationing at Grayton beach last week. Grayton beach is a small community located in the panhandle of Florida west of Panama City. Hope you enjoy it. Best viewed in half or original screen size.

However, the sound was kind of strange. Didn't the guy say something? I could hear nothing but the song at the end.

Marcus Marchesseault May 29th, 2007, 12:40 AM Nice. I like the mix of close and distant shots. The long lens of the rider flying up and disappearing behind hills was really cool.
Ben Coughlan May 29th, 2007, 05:59 AM Hi everybody, pretty new to all this forum stuff, but recently put a little showreel together, just finishing my degree in digital screen arts (One week left) and had to put a showreel together for my last module, has to be in next week, would be cool to get some feedback from people and just for some people to see it and let me know what they think. Its up on yousendit as i dont have any web space to put it up on. honest opinions! oh and i used the wrong clip for the shots in the bar where you can see the lines of the composite of the light plates, thats been changed now. Cheers.

Marcus Marchesseault May 29th, 2007, 07:30 PM The camera work is great. What came into my mind watching that as a demo reel that includes corporate video is, "How about his audio?". I don't know why, but I wanted to hear some dialog to make sure it would be clearly audible and not mushy with lots of room reflections.
Also, the effect in the opening shot partly covered/blurred your company name.
Mark Shea May 30th, 2007, 04:09 AM thanks for your comments Robert.
I am still using a beat up old XL1, sennheiser ME66 shotgun mic and edit on a mac (FCP) Ready to upgrade camera, but waiting for a 1/3 chip cam (like the panasonic) that captures uncompressed HD to a hard drive or other solution (such as p2) and has a big zoom lens (16x - 20x) With what I do, a big zoom allows me to get candid street shots without unwanted attention. I also used a lightweight velbon tripod, hasnt got a true fluid head, and really too light for the XL, but light in the backpack. On the camino http://www.overlander.tv/2007/good-way-one-mans-spiritual-journey-along-the-way-of-saint-james/, I got my gear weight down to 18 kilos, that included everything!!
nice site that vagabonding one, thanks for the link

Jourdan McClure May 30th, 2007, 02:22 PM thanks for taking the time to view it
Mike Watson May 31st, 2007, 11:29 AM This is my furthest reach into the "surreal" video feel, and I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on it. It's a :30 spot for a volunteer group we're a part of.

Steven Gotz May 31st, 2007, 03:00 PM I liked it. It was very well put together.
Perhaps the text could have remained on the screen a moment longer for all of them except the last one. That one seemed to last longer.
Mike Horrigan May 31st, 2007, 10:06 PM Really nice!!
Very professional.

Greg Trenton June 2nd, 2007, 02:24 PM Here's a short trailer I worked on for an author named Michael T. Owens. He was featured on yahoo news a couple of years ago. The theme of the trailer is based on his book "A Dream Come True." Anyway, here's the link:
http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=2033183482
Justin Tomchuk June 2nd, 2007, 07:32 PM I agree with Marcus, I could not clearly read your company name, maybe move the two words a little more apart from one another.
The video was excellent, I was expecting something sub-standard for some reason and was pleasantly surprised. The shots were well done but a little cliche such as the piano keys shot and the point to sky forest shot.
I thought the video showed the woman with the black hat too much, and the last corporate video shot with the guy was maybe too long but it's still fine if you leave them.
The music you chose was a good choice and it looks like you synced the clips with the music which makes it an excellent video. The music was good, except that it was very repetitive and I wish the piano tune had more variation to it's melody. Hardly your fault though if you didn't make the music yourself.
I would like if it had some audio clips from the videos like Marcus said. You may be keen to focus the video on your cinematographic and editing skills but your audio skills were not showcased.
It's one of the better reels I have seen.
Justin
Chris Medico June 3rd, 2007, 06:47 AM We went on the One Lap again this year. This is the once a year race by Brock Yates of the Cannon Ball Run movie fame.
Viacom came out to cover a driver in the event this year as well and they are going to feature it on an episode of Born Country on CMT. Its an hour long show and the episode featuring the event should air on July 27.
We shot some of the video they will feature in the show. We were doing our own coverage of the event for our website and they wanted us to shoot some in car video for them. We also gave them some glidecam footage of their car and some interview footage of the guy with the fake deer on the hood of this Escalade (you'll have to watch this to really understand it).
I'm currently working to get the footage put together for a modest release DVD of this years event.
If anyone would like to check out our web stuff I would be very happy to have some feedback on what we can do better. http://2007oloa.blip.tv
I'm also excited to see how much of what we shot gets into the show on CMT. There are lots of stories there about a few video amateurs trying to deal with a large media company. How do these people sleep at night?????
Chris
Chris White June 3rd, 2007, 08:38 AM An edit of footage for a continuing job, part of an unemployment initiative where people are sent to a training centre in the Lake District and do team-building exercises etc...
We put this edit together just to show the training centre what we can do for them, hopefully going back in the summer to make a full video.
720/25p and used FILMIC and CORAL settings off Barry's disk.

Dustin Waits June 3rd, 2007, 12:13 PM Poke the Hole is a new BMX video that I've just started working on. It's all based out of Southwest Florida. The riders are just me and my friends. All the footage was shot on a dvc30. This is the first trailer. Kind of a sneak peek. I'll release another one when I have more shots and details about the video. Tell me what you think.

Greg Boston June 3rd, 2007, 01:00 PM Tell me what you think.
IMO, too many shots with the fish-eye lens. The song track doesn't fit the video very well either. A slow song with video that's typically associated with high energy expenditure. Use something more up tempo like Van Halen's "Dreams". The lyrics even fit the action better, especially during the jumps.
Just my opinion. And of course, using copyrighted, commercial music without permission from the author is a big no-no. Something we 'officially' take seriously here at DVINFO.

Cole McDonald June 3rd, 2007, 01:19 PM I liked the song choice, but must get license...perhaps you can get cover rights to it and have a friends band cover it. :) Then you can get a cheaper version fo the rights to the song (check with a lawyer first). Really playful and cheery tune emphasizes the fun you guys look like you're having. The 7 rider whoops at the end looks really cool.
Dustin Waits June 3rd, 2007, 02:47 PM Well it's just a video for my friends and I and maybe a few of the local riders around here to enjoy. I guess for that reason, I didn't think I needed to get a license. Obviously I don't know much about it. So how does one go about getting this license?
Cole McDonald June 3rd, 2007, 05:24 PM and the goose yells out "ASCAP" in Gilbert Gottfried's voice ;)

Mike Gorski June 3rd, 2007, 06:24 PM I made short video that has some highlights from this even I went to. Everything was shot on the go, mostly manual settings on a PV-GS320. Everything else done in post. I apologize for the poor audio I didn't have a mic to use in place of the on board mic. All comments good/bad welcome. WARNING: before you watch this just be aware the audio music might be offensive to some people due to the profanity in it. Not too much but want to make that clear before you watch. Thanks!

Gabriel Yeager June 3rd, 2007, 08:29 PM Pretty sweet Mike! Those are some sweet rides!
I am getting into cars, and car mod-ing, so I really appreciate this film..
Love the white lambo! So pretty....
I would maybe lay off the fisheye more next time.. I started to fill a little sick. Other then that, I think it was pretty good! I'll have to watch it again with audio some time...
Do you drive anything special?
~Gabriel
Mike Gorski June 3rd, 2007, 08:40 PM Hey thanks for feedback, much appreciated!! I can agree with the fisheye, we were running and gunning the whole time that I needed a wider field of view since I was in the car. I was the navigator so I was videoing and giving directions which was fun. No I don't drive anything special but my friend who drove in this car event has a 1988 BMW M6 in Mint condition. I just take rides but when I earn enough money when I get out of college I'll definitely be looking to buy something classy and fast. How about yourself?
Gabriel Yeager June 4th, 2007, 10:48 AM Right, I can totally understand that. And it did look cool, just maybe a little less next time if you have the option..
Sounds nice... Can't blame ya, cars are so expensive.. And gas it thru the roof!
Well, I don't drive yet-I just can't afford it. Once I get a job that pays decent, then I will buy something.. Right now, I really like the Mazda RX-8. Its my dream car.. I am more so into visual then power when it comes to cars. Thats why I like the RX-8. Once I get it (if I get it), I plan on putting some wing doors on it, a full bodykit (probably the vailside), Underbody Neons/LEDs, a sweet paint-job, some interior work, and most definitely a loud sound system. I am all about music, in-fact, I play. :)
~Gabriel
