Hello!

I'm building a spinner and I'm about to enclose it in an electronics box made of ABS plastic. Now I need some advice to attach my Canon 1.4 FD lens to the box. A common method as I've understood is to buy a rear lenscap, like this http://images.tradera.com/061/33850061_1.jpg, drill a big hole in the back and then attach it to the box. The problem I see is how to attach the lens cap to the box. I guess glueing is no option, because the 1.4 FD is quite heavy. Is there a common solution to this problem, or should I try a different approach?

The best thing would probably be to buy a non working Canon body and just keep the mount. However, those bodies seem to be quite expensive.

Another option would be to CNC a custom mount, but I don't have the required resources and machinery.

Any tips and suggestions are welcome!

Hi,

Its best to get yourself a cheap FD extension tube off ebay, and then drill and bolt this to the from of the box. Also, the ABS box will have some flex, best to find a die cast aluminium box.

Thanks for the tips. Your right about the flexing. I consider that when buying a box.

As you wrote, I saw a lot of extension tubes on eBay. Looking at this one, http://www.mesadelsol.com/dad/6-5a/DSC_8274.jpg, replacing the screws should be a piece of cake!

By the way, do all Canon FD have the same mount? Stupid question maybe, but you never know... :)

Yes im sure that will fit all your FD lenses

i had canon fd rear cap with collar, machined exact cell for cap(cap sit there really tight). Collar had space in cell as well. Then it took some screws to fix cap using collar.

If you are going to cut up an extention tube, I would recommend leaving it intact, taking it right through the box so that it is easier to set up your centre for the camcorder mount, then cut a clearance in the tube for the disk to run in. If the tube goes right through the box or is long enough for an extention to be sleeved over it snugly, you then should not have to worry about flex unless you are supporting rods and a matte box directly off the front.

Unfortunately the shipping became too expensive.

So far I've bought all lenses and other stuff on eBay for my adapter. I don't know why those things are so expensive in Sweden.
