I hope this is an OK post for this forum. I’m considering a purchase of a DV camcorder and from everything I’ve seen the GL2 is the front runner when in comes to my budget. I looked at the JVC DV300 to save some $, but it just didn’t have all the features I wanted. Number one feature it missed was PASS THROUGH to the firewire port, so I can hook up a VCR to my computer without taping to mini DV first. Can anyone tell me if the GL2 has this feature?
Any other advice would be appreciated. I only get to buy a camera once. If you think the Sony TRV 950 would be better suited to a newbie please let me know.
Thanks in advance

The GL2 definitely has this feature... it's one of the major advantages of this camcorder.

Did I see a downloadable GL2 Manual on the Canon site? XM2 here in the UK - but if my memory serves me correctly . . .
If it is there then you could interrogate the "bible" and fillout any of your knowledge voids.

See the link to the GL2 operator's manual download at http://www.dvinfo.net/canongl2/resource.php -- not for XM2, but should be similar.

Welcome Joe!
I'm just a bit confused (certainly not the first time, nor a statement on your query <g>).
Is your objective:
(a) GL2 --> computer --> VCR
or
(b) GL2 --> VCR ?

Or
(c) VCR --> GL2
(d) VCR --> GL2 --> Computer
This last thing will not work with the XL1s. Because as soon as
you plug in the firewire cable it will not "see" the incoming analog
signal anymore. Ofcourse they could have "changed" this
behaviour for the GL2.... Since I don't own one I cannot tell you.
