Announced at AES in Paris. The Edirol R-4 Pro now has an 80GB HD! - that's 30 hours at 24bit/96kHz. Twice that of the original R-4.

For everyone who's asked for it....
TC In/Out - The R-4 Pro takes in SMPTE time code so you can slave it to a camera. It can also act as the master, sending out TC to slave devices.

Check it out at Edirol R-4 Pro (http://www.dvcreators.net/edirol-r-4-pro/)

BTW, Edirol didn't discontinue the original 40GB R-4 with LANC...they just lowered the price down to $1199!

Damn, now that I was almost done with fitting my budget rig with the HD-P2 because of the original Edirol unit lacking timecode capability and now this...darn it Edirol! :P

On a side note, I've read the preamps and headphone amp on the original are not so good...would it be the same with this unit?

Where did you read that? Have you got an URL?

Does anyone know when the R4 Pro will be available? Price?

I've read it on online forums, and some online reviews. I don't have the link handy, but it should come up in google.
