How it was done:

Shot 1080i HDV, 1/120 Shutter
Converted to 720 60p via Compressor
Conformed to 720 24 fps "overcrank" via Cinema Tools

It's in WMV format:

You'll need to rename the clip with a simple .wmv after downloading and it should play properly in the latest WMP

40% speed on the file is only edit.

the file is a .m2v file that plays fine on my Windows media player.

Maybe it's me but Barlow's footage is real clean and smooth, and yours is displaying with horizontal artifacting???

Nothing wrong with his...that's a normal interlace clip that's been slowed down. 1080i HDV was meant to be displayed on true 1080 interlace displays...and I think that clip would definitely look better seen that way. I purposely converted my interlace clip to 720 60p in order to avoid the normal frame-blended, interlaced slow mo look. It takes some time to render, but the results are worth it.

Barlow, how much resolution loss do you get when converting 60i to 60p. i didnt know that was even possible, i knew you could take 60i, blend the feilds to get 30p. how does 60i to 60p work. and does the resolution still serve worthy. im downloading the clip right now.

Basically, to my eyes, it holds up very well with good motion compensation deinterlacing and contained in the 720 60p format. What you've got is 60 1440x540 fields in HDV (1920x1080 if captured uncompressed SDI!) 60i which can be interpolated to 720 60p with minimal aliasing. As a matter of fact, Compressor offers anti-aliasing options when doing this conversion but I don't bother because it increases render times and I find with the extra horizontal resolution of 60i HDV, it helps make up for the lack of vertical resolution in 720p.

I've taken that slow motion clip and upconverted back to 1080 24p and it looked very acceptable to me.
