Does anybody have any information on the XL2's hot shoe connections? Is it only possible to use Canon accesories? I have an old JVC DVP7 camcorder and the external mic for it is connected via the JVC's hot shoe. I am wondering if the mic would be compatible with the XL2. I don't want to risk damaging the XL2 by putting it on without some info first.

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I'm almost certain that Canon's accessory shoe will only take accessories from Canon.
