I have a shoot coming up and my sound man wants to know if he should record in 24 Frame or 30 Frame. I'm shooting 24f mode ( I know some hate it, I like it) and it is my understanding that although it is a progressive field order, it is still recorded at 29.97 on the tape itself, that it is essentially a created look, not a true 24 frame recording. If that is the case, he should record 30 frame on our DAT backups. Please let me know either way.

Unless he's trying to record timecode I don't think the question is relevant.
If he is recording TC then I assume he's getting a TC feed from the camera, in which case check what the camera sends at your setting.

Brad,
Most people end up recording the DAT or other recordings at 29.97. Even when they are shooting 23.98 on HDCAM. By your post not sure if you are shooting HDV or DV. Remember that you can't record Free Run TC in DV 24F on the Canon. You can do Free Run TC in HDV 24F
