I filmed a live Death Metal show last night, needless to say, things were loud. At some points I was right up at the drumkit. The mic was set to Auto, but is there a possibility that such a loud sound could damage the mic?

Nah. I shot a rap show at a nightclub this past weekend with my 150 right at the stage and the audio sounded fine. Definitely use the AGC when shooting in a loud venue like that.

AGC is the Auto-Level option, I'm assuming?
Is there a possibiliy of the mic getting damaged from too high a signal, though or can mics only suffer from mechnical injury?

I may be wrong, but as far as I can remember loud noise will, at worst, just cause clipping.

don't worry about your mic, worry about your hearing!!!!
i always wear earplugs doing loud projects. maybe a bit late in the day perhaps (too much acid / rock back then...), but considering the levels on and near stage nowadays, you can be too careful....

I too, just started wearing earplugs. What a godsend for loud environments and the "too loud" DJs.
