We are having problems rendering out a 76 min 24p, 16:9 timeline from PremPro 1.5 to an AVI file - everything is great, but in about 4 short but noticeable spots throughout the show the audio lags about a half a second, where as in the timeline it plays without a hitch.
Any suggestions?

The first thought that comes to mind is the hard drive your exporting too. Possibly a defrag may help matters. Since it's just 4 small spots in the entire 76 minute timeline it sorta reminds me of the old IDE resync on non-AV rated drives way back when.

Of course not knowing your scratch disk setup, nor the hard drive setup, it's only a thought..

A couple of questions: have you confirmed that the lag is written into the avi file itself, rather than being a playback issue when you review the avi?

And if so, is it always at the same 4 places?

Thanks for your input! Actually the lags aren't present during playback from the timeline, they are in the avi file and the mpeg2 (DVD) as well.
They occur at points where we did some ADR work; we made use of Auditions in working our audio tracks, then brought them back in to Premier as one single audio track (4 total, including dialogue.)
We recently have installed a new Western Digital 500 gig internal drive with a 16gig cache, all seems well from this.
We will continue to work the problem, and once again we are very greatfull to those much more knowledgable than us, and appreciate your input.

This may sound silly. But can you swap those 4 audio spots with audio that is working. Then try to export. At least you would be able to narrow it down for sure that's it's the WAV files and not just some random chance of timing where you laid those down.

I suppose another avenue would be to remove the 4 .WAV files and re-import them and rebuild the Conform for them. To see if that helps..

I'm not sure that this is the case in PPRO, BUT, in previous versions if you didn't have video track ALL the way through the project the audio would fall out of sync.

For example:

I made a video one time and had a small empty space between a few vid tracks (thinking at the time it would be just like adding black matte). This made the audio off sync in the final AVI, not on the timeline though. As soon as I put black video in those empty spots and outputted to a new AVI the issue vanished. It seemed as though Premiere didn't understand how to interpret blank (non-existing) video inbetween clips and would have trouble calculating the audio lengths.
