Hi Everyone:

So I am logging some footage that I shot last week and I notice on some of the footage it appears I had the Shutter off at 1/48. Basically I see that the "S" does not appear on the lcd screen like it does on other tapes. I went into camera mode and saw it's a result of having the shutter off. I'm not a brain with these things, but the image looks fine, so what was happening then when the shutter was off? Was it on auto?

Thanks in advance.

Tommy

When the camera is in HDV mode at 24fps the shutter off will keep it at 1/48 - that's why the footage looks fine. However, if you are shooting in SD at 24fps, make sure to change it manually because for some strange reason OFF puts it in 1/24. Go figure...

So you mean, when it got turned off it stayed at 48fps (in hd) and it did not move to 24fps?

Just to clarify, in HD I believe it is automatically at 1/48 of a second shutter speed, not 48fps (frames per second). Those terms can be confusing.

Thanks Chad. Of course, we are talking about SHUTTER SPEED not FRAME RATE. My mistake in terminology.

So:
the camera in HDV at 24fps uses as a default 1/48 shutter
in SD at 24fps the shutter defaults to 1/24
