Don't tell the wife but her pics aren't as good as mine. With comparing the good ones from both sides, anyway. All right, so I just contradicted my thread starter. It's late!

My wife does a great job with the intimate shots of the bride before the ceremony. She picks up on teqniques that others use and expounds on them. I've used many many many pictures on important artwork such as my business cards, which contain images my wife took.

The best photo taken with my camera was this makeup artist who I met at a party. She goes: "cool camera! I've never touched one of these. Can I try?" And she picked it up and got me to pose a dozen times and snapped off the five best photos ever taken of me (and by my camera). And then she disappeared.

My girlfriend reminds me every week or so to get those printed up so she can frame them.

Umm, my wife might object to me seeing some of the 'pre-picture' activity.

We broadcast our weekly Sunday morning service to local cable using 4 Canon XL-1s. We have some small amount of camera training for our all-volunteer workforce. The women that participate do a better job of following the flow of service and framing the shots wonderfully. Some of the men learn through listening to our subtle corrections from the control booth and eventually become stronger camera operators because after they learn what the women seem to do instinctively, the men also dig into the technology piece and thus know when to invoke certain features. But the women in our crew seem to have a more natural pointing and framing instinct.

This is certainly not a large enough group to be statisitcally significant and your mileage (and framing) may differ.

Girls usually are smarter than the boys. ;)

I think good photography is 25% knowledge of the camera and photo theory, 75% putting yourself into odd situations and getting the shots (without getting in trouble). When I'm doing photography in public, some people suppose I'm a somethingawful.com goon or similar. This generally kind of ruins straight/candid shots and means I have to waste a lot of time being covert.

A couple weekends ago in LA, I happened across a newlywed couple, still in their getup, on a pier during the sunset. I politely asked for a photo but since I'm some guy with a serious looking camera I had to answer a few minutes of questions trying verify I wasn't with a paper, and that I just wanted pics for a class portfolio. By the time they finally agreed, I was so out of my element that I messed up the exposure and the whole debacle was a waste of time.
If some beach chicky with a Canon Elph happened by, she would have gotten a better picture.

Women are generally less suspect, and as such better photographers.

You're correct about that, Jeff. Women can get away with a lot more without being questioned. That's why I shoot quick and then move on.
