lately - the 3 chip sony trv900 - has been selling for $800 - 1200 on ebay - they are all used , about 8 years old and have no factory warranty - these same bidders could have bought brand new HD sony HC1 or 3 models for about $1400 -- i doubt if the is any real antique or collector value for these old 900 models - so asking if anyone knows if the actual video performance of the SDV old 900 could be better IN ANY WAY ?? than a new HDV camcorder -- i had guessed that the hd resolution may be TWICE as good ??--- thanks

Along with the PD100A, the TRV900 was one of the best small 3-chip miniDV cams ever made. However, it seems DV is almost dead. So $800 might be a tad high.

I'd say this just goes to show that eBay isn't necessarily a source of good deals, and that people aren't particularly rational about what they bid on stuff. But I suppose if people really like the TRV900 and want to pick up a used one to match another one they're using, that might make some sense. As far as image quality is concerned, I like my HC1 but see issues with the footage in some circumstances which might not occur on a 3-chip CCD camera. (HC1 has a single CMOS sensor.)

Ebay is a 50/50 adventure.
