I just went on a trip with 2 HVX200 cameras. I must say I was a little confused by the clip naming structure that Panasonic came up with and why I couldn't add my own info on clips in the camera. Someone on this forum mentioned that the amount of footage you would have to shoot to get a repeat clip name is amazingly large.
Over the course of three weeks we shot around 800 GB of footage at 720P 30PN and I have encountered at least four clips that have identical names.
Why Panasonic won't allow users to add a prefix (IN CAMERA) or something to make the clips particularly unique to the user and situation is beyond me. If I could just pin LND 0406 to clips to indicate that I was shooting in London on May 2006 it would be REALLY helpful. Panasonic could add its cryptic little names after the info. Anyway. At the moment it's not a huge problem because I've been creating subfolders in my capture bin and moving all clips from the same P2 card into their own sub folder. If I had allowed them all to just pile into a single folder I would have run into big trouble with duplicate file names.
I know that I can do all sorts of clever renaming schemes in FCP or once I download the media but there are very clear problems with that so no offense but please don't recommend that.
Anyway, in theory the naming structure may make sense but it my practical implication I am already bumping into problems.
My 2 cents.
