i'm kind of thinking of paying up for an online gallery. i'm using this trial at pbase.com:

http://www.pbase.com/planeteproductions/wildlife

i can only post five photos until i max out my trial subscription, so there's only a few things up.

does anyone have an online gallery recommendation which is cheaper or less confusing (since i'm a bit of a dolt, i'm having some trouble controlling pbase...it's got more features than i need....). i think i like it. just thought i'd ask and see what others are using. and what they like/don't like about these services.

I'm not sure there is a "best".

That being said, smugmug.com is about as good as it gets.

[...] does anyone have an online gallery recommendation [...]
If you can find someone to take care of the installation for you, you might consider Gallery (http://gallery.menalto.com/) an open source web based photo album that provides an easy to use interface that merges photo management seamlessly into your own website. The catch is "your own web site" as this is not a hosted service but something you install on your own unix based web site.

I feel pbase to be the best from the bunch. I don't like flickr. It's sooo slooow and strange.

I think the strength of Flickr is as a community site for sharing photos, but as a tool for serving a formal "gallery" of images in which you control the presentation, yes, something like PBase (as a hosted services) or Gallery (as an add-on to your own web site) offers a much better solution. PBase is perfect if you don't want to deal with any installation/hosting/maintenance issues yourself.
