I recently purchased an xl2 have little knowledge of it. I have the need to recieve audio from both the on board mic and and my wireless mic at the same time. Is this possible?

MIke, Congrats on your recent purchase. You are going to love using this camera.

This particular question comes up on this board with great consistency. Yes, it is certainly possible, and in fact quite easy.

Here are a couple links from previous threads that should give you the info you seek:

Hi Jonathon:

Thanks for the links. That info should take care of my problem. The tech support guys at canon insisted that it could not be done. They said that i needed to replace the on board mic w/ a boom mic that would plug into one of the xlr inputs. Would you recommend that and which will offer the highest quality?

I think it would depend on what you're trying to capture. If you want ambient sounds in a room or somewhere, then I think the onboard mic will be better. However, if you need to get a specific sound, like a person talking, a shotgun mic will work much better since it'll ignore sounds not coming from infront of it.
