Has any one experience with Firestore HD or CineDisk HD Hard Disk Recorders for HDV?

I have a Z1 with the FS4-Pro HD. I have been pleased so far. i have read some complaints about quirky behavior, but I have not experienced any of that yet. I have had it for about a month now and use it 2-3 times a week for a couple of hours at a time.

Thanks Scott,

What I have gathered so far was mostly complaints. That is why I posted the question here.

User error on most issues. We just purchased 3 Firestores FS4pros with hd an use them with our sony hd cameras(fx1 & z1) with no problems.

We have recorded about 200 hrs on all 3 with only one error and that was due to someone accidently pulling out the firewire cable.

Keep in mind, these units do not replace tape. I would recommend that you always use tape as a backup to the firestore unit for mission critical footage.

We use the pyro dv drive for SD and I like them better do to the size and weight of the unit. The firestore has better options for playing back the clips once your done recording. We always have a laptop on site so playback isnt an issue with the pyros.

Thanks Jon,

I intend to use the drive for my HDV work. It is nice to know that the units are working as advertised in their site.

How do you mount the firestore unit to the camera ?
Just the standard way - right up top?
Do you know of other brackets/options you recommend.

Thanks
Paul

We do mounting via our own brackets. Some of my shooters mount it to the tripod. I tend to want it to be mobile.

Here is a link to a post about the bracket

I bought the accesory from Focus. it is a hotshoe mount adapter for the FS-4. It works very well and comes with 2 firewire cables. 1 right agle one and 1 regular.
