Newbie question...

I am using Vegas 6 on Win2k. How much easier will video editing be if I upgrade to XP? Will I notice the difference?

Thanks,

Jim

in general XP is better at multimedia (once you disabled all the fancy stuffs).
for speed and stability it is pretty the same.
Some new programs are working only under XP, but XP SP2 has some problem too with some application.
if you are happy with your machine, do not change anything, following the rule: "don't fix it if it is not broken"

Hi Jim,
Without seeing the specs on your pc it is a bit difficult to give advice, but you should possibly look at how much Ram, your HD speed, and your CPU are all items that could increase performance, without change the OS
Good Luck

Hey Guys,

I have a Dell Latitude D800, 1.6GHz with 512 RAM, 40Gig HD onboard and 300Gig LaCie connected to a 1394b cardbus. As things stand right now, I would prefer to just reload Win2k.

Thanks for the help,

Jim

Hi Jim,
If I looked up the model correctly the pc is a laptop. Laptops typically have slow hard drives (4200 - 5400 rpm) vs desktop machines (5400 - 10000 rpm) so without really replacing the machine I think you are best to stick with W2K and use the money for the upgraded OS to add more RAM to your machine. I think it would give you the most bang for the buck
