Well i'm in the market for a new camera and im on a tight budget around $500-$700 and I want to know if it is better to find a really cheap HDV camera or a nice DV camera...

I would also need to buy accessories (tapes, lenses, and kits)

If you know of a decent HDV around that price it would be awesome but really im looking for the best choice I should make

I'd be looking for a high end consumer DV camera in that range. I don't think you'll get into the 'prosumer' range even in DV for $500-700. Keep in mind even the consumer DV cameras can produce good images.

A really cheap HDV camera is $2000. A really good DV camera is $3000-$4000. The best you are going to get is a decent consumer camera, as has been stated.

Even the low end Panasonic 3-CCD camera runs $1000.

Look at the Panasonic PV-GS400 or it's little sisters Panasonic PV-GS250 and or Panasonic PV-GS200. I have two of the 200's and they do a good job. They're not my main camera, but for the money they produce a good image with a decent amount of control for what they are.

You could almost get two brand new Digital 8 cams for that price. Having edited footage from both a D8 and a mid-level mini DV cam, there is little difference in quality.

B&H is clearing out the Sony HC1 HDV camera for $1350, for what that's worth.
