Hi,

Has anyone heard of, or better still had experience with, the Daylight Area Light 850 fluorescent.

Here is a link to a UK supplier : http://www.profilmgear.co.uk/00144_artikel_detail_en,94758,,108191,detail,kanal+html.html. I found them through eBay but you can buy direct.

I can't find anything else about this unit although the supplier claims they have been sold to many professional studios and production houses. The price seems very attractive and I am actively seeking a reasonably priced, cool light source for interviews.

However, my suspicion was raised when I asked them (via email) what the frequency of the ballast is. I clearly don't want some cheap bit of rubbish that hums. Their reply (spelling intact!) follows:

"yould you please refrase your questions? What frequncy and what ballast. is your questions related to the stand itself or the light?

We can provide you with the CRI (83-85) and Colour Temperatures (approx 5800K) of the bulbs.

The stands provided are standard lighting stands with a spigot head."

Now, leaving aside their obvious lack of knowledge, I wonder if anyone knows of these units and can report their experience - or any other units that are to be recommended within the same ball-park price (and available in the UK).

Thanks in advance of your input.
