After a ton of hard work, the revamped Brevis site is up, although final production pics are not there yet. Many, many thanks to Joshua Nitschke for his PHP coding and graphics work. The ecommerce client is configured and up, as is the product forum.

What do you guys think?

Real nice. Will this be offered to the beta team also (Brevis35 Imaging system, including microprocessor controlled charging system, and Pelican 1120 Box) at our beta price?

The only thing I don't like is how the thumbnails squish in the eCommerce system, but otherwise, it looks great.

Not that I'm biased or anything...

Joshua, you do fine work! Once I get the production model pics, they'll be sized to look pretty in the the thumbnails. Moises, the beta and production packages are identical. The only differnence is the price, and me milking you for info on your camera :-)

Ok good. I can't wait to see pictures of the final stuff. :D

Oh hot digity damn, I am so stoked! A Pelican case?! Is this that surprise?

One of them. Don't get too excited, the 1120 isn't exactly a suitcase. It does solve the shipping issue though doesn't it? The next batch will go out in 1150 boxes which are a bit bigger. The production version had some design changes that make it a bit too big for the 1120, which was spec'd from the original CAD work. I figure at the beta price, there won't be too many complaints :-) The beta folks overseas (Iceland, Australia, Spain) will also enjoy the cheaper shipping.

Wow, the site looks great. You really are working fast at getting this done! Great job...

All the links give me a page not found error, accept for the forum link

dennis.. find someone to host your videos. it would look more proffessional than going to savefile.com other than that the site looks awesome

Dennis Wood

Andrew, once the downloads subside a bit, I'll host them myself. Doing some rough calculations, there's been nearly 20GB of downloads in about 2 weeks. It's just an issue of boosting cinevate's download limits, or posting lower res video. Joshua had already offered..until I mentioned the total downloads to date :-) Point taken.

Wayne, what are you browsing with? I just tried IE and firefox again and everything looks OK.

Wayne Kinney
March 25th, 2006, 09:11 AM
Dennis,

Same thing happens in both firefox and IE. the links ' Products FAQ Demo Links Contact ' all give me a 'Page Not Found -We're sorry but the URL you've attempted to access does not exist. If you think this is an error, please contact the administrator of this site.'

Strange. My PC must need updating.

Interesting. I believe all the PHP is pretty much server side stuff, so you're browser should be getting pretty straightforward HTML. What OS are we talking about? Cache cleared etc? So far, no one's reported the same issue...but you've got me thinking.

Dennis,

Tried clearing the cache but same thing. IM on XP Pro. I wonder what the problem is. The home page opens fine, but any link from (appart from forum) gives me the page not found error.

Dennis Wood
March 25th, 2006, 10:21 AM
We'll see if logging/debugging etc. can be enabled to work this out. I've seen errors like that, but only when running the site from my workstation, using XP Pro's IIS, and the windows PHP engine. Once the code is on the server...no issues. Any chance you have some of that loaded locally?

I have no idea. No matter, I was just interested in taking a look, Dennis. I'll try viewing on another workstartion soon.

We'll look at it either way. Thanks for trying Wayne.

Is there anyway we could get some DV footage (or even a hi quality .mov file) so it can be viewed on a TV screen?

Ok, it's as I thought, somehow you have an old version.... You sure you cleared your cache?

yes i clears the cache, same thing.

The new link below works though, and the new site is looking very nice.

The sample footage up is 3000Kbps MPEG4, which to my eye looks better than 9500Kbps MPEG2, and is very difficult to differentiate from the raw DV. Once the production units are done (CNC work as we speak), I will post up some more, including raw DV. I wanted them up as true to the raw DV as possible, while keeping downloads manageable, so that there would be no surprises for the beta group.

It should be noted that other than rotating the footage right side up, this stuff is coming right from an NTSC GS400 in 16:9 frame mode. There's no CC, noise reduction, nothing. In fact, the last clip is zoomed 10% as I didn't zoom in enough to cover the overscan area. I hate doing that with SD DV as the resolution is nothing to write home about in the first place.

I will also have XL2 and XL1s footage as these cams are lined up for shoots as soon as I have the final Brevis versions in my hands.

Wayne, I wonder if your ISP uses a proxy server? If so, the old cached site should be refreshed shortly.

Hello Dennis,

Well, I apologize for missing your entry into the adapter market. Your product looks very interesting. It seems you have put a lot of thought into your adapter. That is much appreciated.

I look forward to seeing some of the XL2 sample footage!!!! I'm currently downloading one of the GS400 samples. Sadly, I only have dial-up.(sloooow)

Congratulations!

Thanks Brian! If it wasn't for encouraging posts like that, I'd have a great adapter for myself...and the Brevis project would be dead. Frankly, I've been stunned by the great response. The first 11 units will be going out in a few weeks, and there will be a lot of footage to look at. I'm pushing very hard to have a production model in my hands by week's end. I have an XL2 and XL1s owner here anxious to do some shooting!

Sorry about the download size. I wanted to post footage as close to the raw DV quality as practical..so 3000Kbps full frame wmv (MPEG4) is as good or better than MPEG2 at 9500Kbps.

Hey dennis Im in the market for one of these ? will it work on my VX2000 58mm ? also is this upside down or rightside up when filming ? I also like how you have the rails available :-) cuz I wouldnt know where to begin to purchase them.....

It should be a direct "screw on" proposition. There is a frame test that will deternmine if you'd a mild macro or not. Based on testing data so far, no Sony cam's will require a macro or spacer. pmail if you'd like to try the frame test.

Footage is upside down, but a flip module is in CAD stages as we speak.

just sent you a Pmail and how long a wait is it for the flip & will it still have support braces available ?

Dennis Wood
March 30th, 2006, 12:25 AM
All of my energy is in the adapter...so the flip unit will need to wait a bit. It's done in CAD already and pretty much ready for CNC programming.

I have designed a rail support unit for the Brevis itself, and if there's a demand for the same on the flip module, it will be simple to do.

At last, here are pics of the first production model. My guess is that folks will prefer everything black but here's the raw CNC aluminum look. (http://www.cinevate.com/images/models/brevis35/spread.jpg) Other than some fastener changes, this is the final production model. The interior will be non-reflective, regardless of the exterior finish. The custom GG's arrive tomorrow, so XL1 and XL2 shoots should happen this weekend.

Thanks Moises. For whatever reason, at this time of night, my ISP/DNS forgets dvxuser exists...so I can't get there. A third party proxy, down of course tonight, is my usual workaround.

Well the new diffusers arrived today, and they're beautiful. They're specifically engineered to give true 16:9 cameras a wider frame, while taking into account the available image "cone". I'll be posting up more footage tomorrow with the production Brevis SN #1 and the new diffuser.

We're ramping for an initial run of 25.
