We got this camera just over a year ago, so there is no store warranty. It seems that when inserting the CF card, some of the pins inside the card slot got bent, rendering the camera inopperable. Any idea as to what this will cost to fix?

It is similer to a problem I had some time ago, putting a processor on a motherboard. Difference being, I could easily reach the pins on the chip to straighten them with tweezers. No such luck here.

the minimum repair cost at canon is approx $200 and this is probably what you are looking at

if the pins are still there i would first try to have a camera repair place locally try to fix it. May save you all that money at least for a while

I tried that route first, but we only have 3 places in my area that repair cameras. One is a jewlery store, so I crossed them off the list. The second place is closed, while they move back across the street to their old building. The 3rd said they would charge me $35 to ship it to Canon for repair.

I've had several dozen students bend the pins on their dSLR's over the years and not one repair has worked for very long. Once the metal pin gets bent, it's forever a weak point. It's only a mater of time until it bends again. I suggest sending it to Canon for repair. The cost should be between $200 and $300 to replace the part.

How weak is weak? And how did they manage to get into that narrow slot to straighten the pins? If I can do it myself and save a few hundred, I can guarantee the CF won't be coming out again!
