Does anyone know if the BeachTek DXA-4s is compatible with the DV953? ***Or any similar panasonic camera like the GS400, GS250? *** I have read through some posts, but I have only seen references to the DXA-2s model for panasonic cameras.

Yes, any of the Beachtek's will work with the Panasonic cams. As will the Sign Video and Studio1 Productions XLR adapters.

Thank you!

This is outside the scope of my original question, but why is it that they make sony versions and canon version of the BeachTeks?

According to their Q&A:

Q: What is the difference between the DXA-4 and DXA-4P?

A: The adapters are identical except for the position of the mounting screw. The DXA-4 is designed for an optimum fit on the Sony VX1000, VX2000, VX2100 & FX1 camcorders, while the DXA-4P is ideal on the Canon GL1 or GL2.

I have a DXA-4s connected to my DV953 and it works great! No problems at all.
