This product seems available right now.
Anyone tested one of this around the world?
If 80GB model records 12 mins for 1920x1080/24P YUV 4:2:2, 320GB one should be able to record 48 minutes. Not bad.
But.. price?

Giroud Francois March 18th, 2006, 03:36 AM when you read specs: PowerSupply 12V, 0,3А it is difficult to believe they can cram so much RAM and use so little power.
Samsung just annouced their new flash drive, possibly thei are using some.
Samsung says 30$ per gig, so it can give you an idea of the price range.
What is hard to believe too it is that Panasonic is unable to give us a way to record DVCPro HD on something other than REALLY expensive small memory card, and now these guys come with this stuff with huge and fast memory size . I think these guys and panasonic should have a talk together...
John Benton March 18th, 2006, 10:16 AM but what we want is HD -SDI, not just the memory .
Daniel Epstein March 18th, 2006, 10:39 AM Sounds interesting. Since the Canon SDI doesn't have sound or timecode on the SDI you will want to dual record sound and use a timecode slate if you want to sync things up. The Internal HDV tape could be useful for this so I would always roll a tape as well. Still the quality will be impressive.
Steve Rosen March 18th, 2006, 11:30 AM If this works, and it might be a big "if", this could rewrite the book yet again...
Asa Phelps March 21st, 2006, 02:14 PM This is a response by CTT, I think can interests someone:
Today we have several models- 40 80, 160 or 320 GB, as well, price- 4800USD/40GB
and other models are 9600- 80GB, 18000- 160GB, 36000- 320GB.
max available- 640 GB with 2x320GB storage boards.
basic model may record 4:2:2, 4:4:4 available on special order.(+500$)
40GB is enougth for 4 min uncompressed video, in 25fps
LS or MJPEG 2000 codec will be available some later, (Q2-Q3).as free upgrade.
It's better buying a Panasonic AJ 1200 by now.. sigh

Giroud Francois March 21st, 2006, 02:18 PM and since more camera output to component than to SDI, they better to provide component input....
Robert Sanders March 21st, 2006, 02:51 PM $36,000! Are they joking?
Giroud Francois March 21st, 2006, 03:57 PM 320 gig for 36000 $ is not so expensive if you take in account that is memory , not harddisk.
How much would you pay for the equivalent capacity with P2 card ?
let's say an optimistic price of 1500$ for 8 gig P2 card.
it make the 320gig around... 60.000 $ , yes maam sixty thousand.
and the equivalent on harddisk (the WAFIAN HR-1 500gig)
is already 15000$ for a non portable device (too big and need 110V power supply). For a device that integrate probably dead cheap hard disk storage, it is pretty expensive.
Vincent Rozenberg March 21st, 2006, 04:06 PM You buy a Panasonic DVCProHD deck for 21.000 dollar + 6.000 for SDI so 27.000 and tapes are cheap. Okay, no uncompressed but still worthwhile to compare don't you think...
Giroud Francois March 21st, 2006, 04:12 PM and you build a small barebone PC for 500 $, add some 10K rpm 250 gig hardisk + a HD-SDI capture card and for less than 3000 $ you get the same.
Vincent Rozenberg March 21st, 2006, 04:18 PM So you proved my point that 36,000 dollar for 320GB is a lot... ;-)
Giroud Francois March 21st, 2006, 04:30 PM Nope, there is nothing to prove.
There are 1 billion $ cars and you can drive one for 1000 $ too.
both will move your ass from point A to point B.
But there are still people who think they need (and can afford) the expensive model, and some that think the a cheap bus ticket or a good walk are ok too.
at each level , the people think "hey it is pretty expensive " when they look at the next level. And there are other smart guys that says "hey man, you are crazy to buy this, i can do the same for half the price".
So you just need to find the level where you feel comfortable, and forget the others.
Ashley Hosking March 21st, 2006, 05:37 PM I was of the mind flash memory of any type had a life span of being able to be written to so many times?
Vincent Rozenberg March 22nd, 2006, 01:47 AM Nope, there is nothing to prove.

Yeah, but the expensive car has airconditioning, is bigger, nicer paint, abs, bla bla bladie bla.. The cheap one not. No you can get uncompressed video for 36.000 dollar or less then 10.000 dollar. Some picture quality, only a bit smaller. So yeah, if the price difference is it worth for you, then go buy one.
Giroud Francois March 22nd, 2006, 01:51 AM "So yeah, if the price difference is it worth for you, then go buy one."
you got the point....
Tony Davies-Patrick March 22nd, 2006, 01:55 AM Only $36,000 - In that case, I'd better buy an extra couple, just in case my $1 billion dollar car hits a Hummer, while carrying a 320GB model on the passenger seat during the short drive home from the CTT offices...Just think - All that money that I saved on buying the cheap $36,000 model instead of the $60,000 model will free up space in the bank balance to buy an extra truck-load of H1 cameras...
