View Full Version : Lit or Dead Pixels - any menu fix (hidden or not)?

Hi all.

I searched the forum and it sounded like a dead/lit pixel scenario requires a product swap, or a trip to Canon. I've had mine for a month or so, and I just started to see some while pixels in the image. I think one or two are actually single pixels, and the third is a cluster.

It seems pretty inconvenient indeed if we can't mask these out ourselves.

I'm curious if anyone has a way of getting rid of these? I'm seeing them at 3db - haven't tried many other settings since I've seen them.

Any advice?

Thanks,
Shawn

BTW, mine are white pixels...

Is that a 'lit' pixel, 'dead' pixel, or what?

And it's in the final image - not just the VF.

If it is in fact a CCD pixel (and not an EVF LCD pixel), then Canon Service is your next step.

But first -- check the rear element of the lens, and the face of the CCD prism block on the camera body. Clean them carefully. I once had what I thought was a hot pixel on my XL1, and like yours it was visible only when the Gain was higher than +0db. Turned out to be a tiny speck of dust on the rear lens element.
