I am fortunate enough to have found a very talented score composer at my school who is willing to score my upcoming short "After the Beep." There is a problem, however, in that I find myself unable to communicate what I want as far as the score is concerned. I can "hear" the score in my head, but I can't really put it into musical terminology. All his songs are very close to what I imagined, it's just communicating the details that I'm not very good at. There are little tweaks, and I can imagine what the songs would sound like if they were "fixed" yet I still can't describe them.

Has anyone else had this problem before? How did you overcome it?

Hi Matthew, congratulations on getting someone to work cooperate you and your upcoming short. When you say "his songs" do you literally mean his songs or his score in so far as he's produced a series of seperate songs that you would fit at the apposite point, or a linear score that ebbs and flows with he action as it unfolds? I am just interested to know! thanks.

The way we're doing it is that he's composing various themes now, based on a single main theme, that can be mixed together into a score. As of now, each theme is a separate song. They will be integrated into a single score for the final version of the movie.

Talk in terms of the emotion that you want the music to impart.
