Guys,
I am sure this has already been discussed, but could someone walk me through the Z1 audio menu setups. I know this sounds really basic, but I would like to hear what others do and how you use the sound tabs. Ch. 1, Ch.2, Chs. 1 & 2, etc.

Thanks,

Jack

What exactly are you trying to accomplish? You could set things up a lot of different ways depending on what you're plugging into the camera and what results you're expecting.

I record performances with a mono line level input from input from the soundboard. So I set for line level, ch 1+2 combined, ch 1 on auto and ch 2 manual. That's a "cya" in case there's a loud peak that I wasn't prepared for with the manual level.

Thanks Boyd. That's the kind of information I am looking for. Never thought about putting one channel on auto and one on manual. Definitely good cya.

I have a "similar but different" setup to Boyd when recording events or conferences.

I get a mono line feed from the sound desk which goes into Ch1 on manual with a limiter. Invariably, the line feed requires a +12dB boost (thankyou Sony) because the Sound Engineer doesn't want to overcook things with respect to feedback.

I then use a camera mounted mic (sorry, not the onboard mics) to pick up audience reaction, plugged into Channel 2 on Auto with limiter. As this is just for applause, laughter or whatever, I just use the mic that came with my PDX-10.

The Z1 setting in this case is the C1-->C1, C2-->C2 mode, not Boyd's C1-->C1,C2.

HTH.

Hi Matt:

I am late on this, but thanks for the tip. I'll give it a try.
