I'm going to do a lot of outdoor filming this spring, but don't know of any UV filters that are best suited for my camera. If anybody films alot in the outdoors please let me know the brand you use. Thank you and GOD bless!

My father owns a VX2000 and always uses a Hoya Circular Polarising filter for out-door shoots, makes for super picture, the UV filter is really just clear glass and won't affect the picture too much, nothing like the skin tones and colour like the Polarising filter will. The Hoya is one of the dearest makes but is well worth it, I use one myself on my Canon XM2 and they are super.

Hope this helps a bit

If you're looking to use a UV filter to protect the lens, I like the Hoya Super Multi Coat UV filters (Hoya SMC). They cut down on reflections and the light transmission through the filter is much better than with an uncoated glass filter, and the prices are pretty good for what you get.

I'd go with Robert on this one, the Hoya S-HMCs are excellent. They can be quite dear in the 58 mm size but it's well worth going for the most expensive as this filter ends up being your new front element. So too with the polarisor option mentioned by Paul. You don't need a circular - a linear is just as effective, but what you do need is for it to be multi-coated.

But as always I'd say that for the best picture quality dispense with the filter if at all possible., and especially so if you use converter lenses. It adds another two surfaces with the potential for dust and fingerprints, and effectively reduces the overhang - and therefore the effectiveness and efficiency - of the stock hood.

So - if you're filming in adverse weather or amongst inquisitive children, go for it - add a protective UV. For all other applications forget it. Modern protective coatings are much tougher than in days gone by, and the front element of your VX's VAP will take gentle cleaning now and again with no worries.
