I'd like to see a close up slomo if there are any.

I just took that clip into AE and sped it up, it looks like it's been slowed to exactly 50%. My guess is all they are doing is taking the interlaced image and doubling up the fields as it's recorded to tape - it'll be interesting to see something at full res and see if there is a vertical resolution drop in this mode.

The clip is actually 4x slower. It is a 12 sec segment (30fps) from a 3sec (120fps) segment. You may notice a drastic decrease in resolution; there's been a lot of talk as to why that is on the following link:

I understand it's supposed to be 4x slower but it clearly isn't and you can test it yourself - take it into any video program and run it at 2x and 4x speed. At 2x it looks like almost natural motion, at 4x it's clearly much faster than real motion. Either the camera isn't really doing a 4x slowdown or that particular clip has been changed after the camera was done with it.

No, certainly not.

By the way, HC3 lacks zoom ring but the tripod mount is on the bottom of the chasis (I think). When I damaged the door of the A1's tape load mech by mounting A1 on my bike, HC3 might be better to mount....but then HDV would not withstand the vibration anyway....

Motion looks great. The clarity looks low. Did they use any built-in RAM scheme to achive this effect? Sony's product site does not even mention this slo-mo effect much.

Now that one actually looks like it is a 4x slowdown - I think the previous clip must have been changed when it was compressed for the web. The new clip looks pretty soft though, considering it's 5Mbit MPEG2 at about standard definition - it looks like it's actually lower than standard def.

Well, not in camera.

But I have gotten identical results from an HC1 by separating fields, applying the SmoothDeinterlace filter for Virtualdub to yield 60fps progressive, then slowing that down.
