I've got a Canon XL H1 and I'm going to replace the Canon microphone with an Audio Technica 4073a.

I want to use Canon's intergral shockmount, but the 4073 is quite a bit thinner than Canon's mike, so I need to pad the mount (add a lining to it so to speak).

I guess there are 101 different materials I could use, but I would welcome suggestions of anything readily available which would make good sense acoustically.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I use various mouse pads of different thicknesses. Slice out a rectangle using a sturdy razor and some backing like an old magazine. The bottom is usually very tacky, the top sometimes too smooth but will grip if it's clamped well enough. Check the discount stores for .99 cent pads in a variety of thicknesses, colors and top textures.

Well I was going to suggest "Closed cell neoprene..." But hey, it's just mousepads anyway...

Thanks for the suggestion - it seems good. As luck would have it I've just thrown a spare mouse pad away!

Thanks again.
