View Full Version : New Reel...(good)
Giuseppe Palumbo February 20th, 2006, 11:57 PM Well, Since I made my last reel almost a year ago i've had tons more work and more projects so I Decided to make a new reel finally. Most of the footage is Gl2 footage still, except the black and white band at the end is XL2 and so is the last rap video footage.
-The reel is 2:05 long and the music is:
Eighteen with a bullet - Pete Wingfield
Intro - RJD2
Things fear - The Mars Volta
Stand Clear - M.O.P
* I know the aspect ration is a little off, cause the newer footage is Widescreen and i forgot to crop it, but it's going to be viewed on TV's For the most part so nobody will really see it.
Anyways, just tell me what you thought of it. :)

Glen Chua February 21st, 2006, 02:06 AM I liked it, it was pretty good
Josh Caldwell February 21st, 2006, 09:23 AM I thought it was good too. However, I would change the white font. It doesn't look very good and kind of brings down the project a little. So, I'd find another font and I think you'll be good.
Looks good though.
Jeremy Hughes February 21st, 2006, 11:12 AM Good stuff Giuseppe. The font didnt bother me (the serif) - the only thing was the floating in of your name in the script face - maybe either have that actually write out or change that to a san serif face but a little larger?
Giuseppe Palumbo February 21st, 2006, 12:34 PM K, ill work on that...I suck at type. I gotta work on that. When you said change the white font...you meant my name in the beginning...right?
Josh Caldwell February 21st, 2006, 12:43 PM No, I though that was fine. I meant that font that crosses the frame, the words imagination and creativity. The black words look fine, but the white ones are blocky and kind of boring. It doesn't have to be too over the top, like script or anything, but just something with a little bit more to it.
Giuseppe Palumbo February 21st, 2006, 12:50 PM that type was on the project already so i didnt add that in the reel. But the type in the beginning is what i can change now, so im gonna do something different to it once i figure out what i want.
Adam Bray February 22nd, 2006, 01:37 AM In those first two skate scenes, what kind of settings did you use?
Giuseppe Palumbo February 22nd, 2006, 01:42 PM Same as everything else for the most part im guessing. It was just really good lighting in that area.
Charles Papert February 22nd, 2006, 02:42 PM Guiseppe, the footage looks good but I'm not sure about the title cards ; you have "a new beginning presentation" up front, followed shortly thereafter by "new beginning presents", "new beginning films" in the middle and "a new beginning production" at the end. Obviously a bit repetitious and I'm not really sure I get what that is all about--is this your company demo or your personal demo?
Giuseppe Palumbo February 22nd, 2006, 04:41 PM Well its my personal demo but ive always represented myself as NB films. What titles would be better?
Josh Caldwell February 22nd, 2006, 08:19 PM I would probably only use it once.
Giuseppe Palumbo February 22nd, 2006, 10:50 PM I Redid The Titles and changed the songs in the beginning. Tell me if its any better.

Giuseppe Palumbo February 22nd, 2006, 10:53 PM I hosted Wrong file...Wait for the change, ill post when finished.
Giuseppe Palumbo February 22nd, 2006, 10:57 PM Ok, Sorry about that if anyone tried to watch in in that 3 minute interval. But anyways, its good now...Check it out. :)
Charles Papert February 23rd, 2006, 12:31 AM Guiseppe, if this is your personal reel it probably would be best for you to start with your name and what you do (director? cinematographer?) and eliminate ALL of the "new beginning" references, except perhaps for the very first one if you really feel it is necessary. This is a demo reel, not a trailer, so it shouldn't be "presented" by any other entity than yourself. And it should end with your name (and contact info if you like), if that is indeed what you are selling. As you can see, I am confused by the duality of the titles and thus so likely will others.
Also, what is the MPAA rating card doing in there? Has one of your projects gone through their rating process? If not, that shouldn't be in the reel.
Sorry if this seems harsh, but as I initially mentioned, you have some nice work in there but it is being interrupted by these graphics. Let the work speak for itself, identify yourself clearly and don't fall victim to the trappings of hype.
Giuseppe Palumbo February 23rd, 2006, 01:26 AM well, that project you are referring to was for school and we had to edit a realistic trailer so that's why its in there. I'll add contact info to the end though. Thanks
Josh Caldwell February 23rd, 2006, 09:18 AM You should still probably take it out. It doesn't need to be in there now. And technically it's misleading.
