I'm working on a project using some hi-8 footage.
I'd like to do two things, simultaneoulsy if at all possible.
1. Transfer the hi-8 footage to mini-Dv (using an XL-1)
2. Transfer the footage to VHS with time code burned on the screen
At my disposal are:
- a sony hi-8 camera
- my XL-1
- VCR
- TV
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I get "CHECK DV INPUT" as an error whenever trying to record on the XL-1 (VCR mode with Hi-8 signal coming via S-video and 2 RCAs for audio). Do I not have something set up right? Can you not "transfer" this way???
Thanks for your help

There will be no time code on Hi8 of course. It is not digital.
Best way to digitize Hi8 is to play it through a Sony Digital 8 camera. It should send it to your capure souce with TC-- whether it be your XL1 or your computer system. How your XL1 will pass through video to a VHS recorder, I don't know.. It may require aeparate transfer.

So the XL-1 is not capable of "recording" from an analog source?
I would have thought it would have been able to convert/record -
in much the same way it takes the real world (true analog) and records it.
hmmm... It was hard enough tracking down a hi-8 camera.

Recording from analog input was added with the XL1s, it is not possible with the XL1.
