View Full Version : Canon XL H1 fimout - Awesome!
David Taylor February 17th, 2006, 03:50 PM CineForm has been involved in a filmout test for the XL H1 initated by Robert Margouleff at Mi Casa Multimedia, and managed by Scott Billups. In a word, it's "Awesome". For those interested, we've written about the filmout at http://cineform.blogspot.com/.
David.
Vincent Rozenberg February 17th, 2006, 05:59 PM For a moment I was thinking that you meant that you did a transfer to 35 mm..
Anyhow, a nice article, thanks!
David Taylor February 17th, 2006, 06:02 PM It was a filmout to 35mm - sorry if I wasn't clear! I'll look at the post again....
Vince Gaffney February 17th, 2006, 06:07 PM David,
you made a reference to how it went to tape. that is the likely source of confusion.

David Taylor February 17th, 2006, 06:09 PM Totally my error - I apologize - I had a typo in the post. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. It should be fixed now. For clarity - yes the transfer was to 35mm!
Vincent Rozenberg February 17th, 2006, 06:17 PM Allright, okay, could have been me as well, since English isn't my native language.. ;-)
Alister Chapman February 18th, 2006, 12:53 PM My own experience with the H1 has led me to believe it is a truly remarkable camcorder. If you record from the HD-SDi output the images are just stunning. It dosn't surprise me to hear that it looks good after transfer to 35mm. I am currently considering a Sony F330 HD XDCAM, but I am not convinced it's actually going to produce images any better than the H1. I love my H1 and it is now my camera of choice on almost every shoot I do from corporate to broadcast. I have a DSR570 and Sony Z1 that are both now gathering dust.
Levan Bakhia February 19th, 2006, 09:26 AM In the picture in report I see that xl is on mini35, so my question is, was there a mini35 footage also blown out to film? If yes, how was it?

Levan, I believe most, if not all footage taken to 35mm was from the second day of the shoot at which we also had the F900 present. As I wasn't involved in choosing the filmout selects I'm not sure why there wasn't material from the first day too.
John Poore February 27th, 2006, 09:30 AM Hi Alastair,
I see you own a lot camera's. I've got an FX1 and am very happy with it, but if I were to get a second camera I'd be looking at the XL1H, I see you've had some good experience with it, I take it that Chroma Fringing is not a problem with it some have mentioned? I hate CF btw.
And is it true, as some say, that the Canon HDV produces better colour than the Z1 when tranferred directly onto 4:2:2 tape like DigiB? I suspect you may have experience of this?
Again please excuse my questions :)
Gary McClurg March 20th, 2006, 07:28 PM While I'm still in LA... I was wondering if those involved in the film out could set up another screening...
I'm sure their will be tons of interest from people wanting to see it...
Thanks Gary
Robert Sanders March 20th, 2006, 08:39 PM God yes! I'd to see it too.
John Cordell March 20th, 2006, 09:43 PM I'd definitely be interested.
