A friend of mine has two camera that need repair – a Sony DCR HC42 NTSC & a Sony DCR- VX1000. Both fell to the ground, one works- it records but without being able to see the screen. I don’t know which one. I know the cost of the HC42 is far less than the VX1000.
Question- should he send it to Sony or work through his local Circuit City. He is the boonies of NC. Thanks for the help.

Go to this URL to find info on Sony repairs: http://eservice.sony.com/webrma/web/index.do
Enter the model number (for example: dcrvx1000), purchase date, dealer and your zip code. In this case, it appears Sony will repair the VX-1000 for a flat rate of $516. I suppose you might want to give some thought as to whether it's worth putting that kind of money into an older camera.
There are also Sony facilities in the following locations, but I think these are only intended for the "pro" products like the PD-150, etc.

Very very Thank You Boyd. I'll pass this info along to him. Cameras are not his thing.
