View Full Version : Screw-mount filters and the stock sunshade?

To those who own or have shot with the HVX:

How do 82mm screw-mount filters work with the stock sunshade? When I shooting day exteriors, I'm wearing a POLA 95% of the time. It seems that the permanant hard-matte on the sunshade would make using a screw-on POLA a pain in the arse.
Just wondering in case I have to factor in the cost of a matte box and 4x4 pola.

Matt,

I chose not to buy the 4x4 filters for my matte-box because I already own a selection of 82mm Heliopans for my still cameras.

If you're wondering about fit, they fit perfectly with the stock lens shade in place. In fact, I always have a UV on the front of the lens for protection and, an ND in front of that and it still fits.

Of course, there's no way to access the ring on the Cir-Pol with the stock lens shade but I'm almost always using the matte-box anyway so it's not an issue; I can easily reach around front and turn the polarizing ring with the matte-box on. Sure, using the rotating section of the box and a 4x4 polarizer would be easier, but I can't justify that since I already own the screw-in filters.

Good to know.
All of my filters are 72 round, so I'm looking at an 82 round UV and the rest 4x4 or 4x5. I don't have a matte box yet, so I'm thinking about the Cavision 4x5.6.

Thanks for the info.
