I just got my Hauppauge WinTV PVR USB2 and it came bundled with Ulead Movie Factory 4.0 SE. All I want to do is edit TV programs that I record with this PVR. Movie Factory has editing features but it is very limited.

Can someone recommend an EASY and inexpensive video editing program? I want to be able to take a 30 minute recorded tv program and edit out the commercials quickly. I would even be open to shareware or freeware programs.

Simple editing is all i want to do, no fading in-out or other bells and whistles needed.

try avid dv free. it's free version of avid dv, with some limited options, but you can edit and feel the avid's way of editing. you can download it from avid.com.
maybe this will fit you needs. it is bit difficult to learn from the begining, but once you start, you can easily switch to professional versions which are basically the same, but with milions of options added.

How limited is it? You can't even trim out the commercials?!

Your recordings are in MPEG2 format?

Windows XP comes with an editing application. Look for Movie Maker on your system. If it isn't XP, and it isn't a Mac, you may have some trouble finding something that will work with your PVR recordings. Make sure your PVR is set to record as AVI files so the editing applications will work with the files. MPG files are not easy or accurate to edit.
