There is only one thing wrong with this and it's minor. ON the barn doors there was a color temp glass that broke out. It is easily replaced with CTB gel cut out to fit, not big deal. Clearing out to buy second camera.

Boxes are *not* easy to keep around... having experienced the limited square footage of the apartments of several friends in Brooklyn, I don't see any practical way to store in that particular locale.

I have the luxury of a storage shed, a couple of spare bedrooms and an attic and it's still a challenge to hold onto boxes. The only way I can do it is to fold 'em flat. Except for the ones with styrofoam inserts... those go in the attic... but man it's really getting crowded up there!

Last week, I stood in our garage and my mind boggled at the ammount of 'wasted space' consumed by boxes. Yes, some can be folded flat, but it dawned on me, that in today's electronic consumer society, when the instructions literally say "KEEP THE BOX FOR RETURN SHIPPING", that everything we buy - actually EXPANDS after purchase! Think of it. You buy a box that's maybe 2x3x4, and you take the device out. Maybe you have to ASSEMBLE the device, so IT expands. Bingo, double the volume has been consumed. And styrofoam packing inserts are virtual carnivores of closet space.

Sigh.

Seller asked me to cover quicker shipping which I agreed to do at my cost but I couldn't include the box as it would have incresed shipping too much.There's your answer, Patrick -- if I were you, I'd explain that to the buyer. He asked for quicker shipping, you paid for that and he didn't. The box was sacrificed as a result. I don't see a problem unless the buyer thinks he is entitled to something for nothing.

Canon USA can probably provide a box. Worth a call to find out anyway.

I did explain the issue to the buyer. He has now made a claim with paypal and all the funds are on hold- so I really need to find a box.

The original auction came with the box and free shipping via a standard method. He wanted 2 day UPS international shipping, which I said I would do, but no box as that would cost me too much. He got the package and then complained about the box, and now is filing a claim. I have since moved and gotten rid of the box so I'm scrambling to find something.

Do you have any correspondence where you told him the shipping upgrade would cost him the box? If you sent with tracking, he will lose his claim. Paypal does not promise condition, only delivery.

Offer him $50, which is silly, but likely easier than the hassle and more shipping costs.

No correspondence in writing about the trade off, that part was done over the phone. Good news is that it was sent by UPS so I do have the tracking info and entered that into the paypal claim. I would of course prefer ot settle this with him as I hate the thought that they might issue a refund or something over a box. They already have my account on hold because of this. I did offer him money back for the box, but he won't respond, he just says he wants the box, so thats what Im trying to find now...

I think you can win your case with PayPal, if you carefully explain to them what has happened. He received the camera, he enjoyed expedited shipping at your cost, not his. There's no validity to his claim and I think PayPal will see it your way. Especially since the UPS tracking number proves delivery, as Ash explained above.

But you can try Canon USA on Monday to see if they can get a box for you.

oh man... my wife was collecting styrofoam popcorn for a while :). anyway, the way i figure it, boxes don't pay rent.

i think giving a small refund is a good idea. the couple of times an ebay buyer was a little miffed at me for not including a plain-vanilla composite cable or a pack of AAA batteries, a little refund usually took care of it. with the cost of the item and shipping, as said before, it should come close to being a wash.

Wanted to add we have been very happy with the camera, but looking to downgrade for a DVX + money in the bank. Given the right circumstances, a trade might be considered.

I am transitioning from an XL2 to an HD200, so I actually have a couple of things to sell - one of which is this 3X wide angle lens. Although I am loving the new camera now, I am hating the fact that I can't use this great wide angle lens. It's in perfect condition, minus one scuff you can only see in the first pic just to the left of the "3X wide zoom" lable:

If so, I haven't found them. I just searched a few dozen places online. You may be thinking of a different 7" model -- there are more than one with very similar model numbers. I did find one place a little cheaper than B+H, so I'll come down a little on the price.
