View Full Version : Editing Configuration Questions

I recently purchased two of the XL-H1s. For capture and editing, I currently use an RT.X100 Xtreme Pro with Premiere Pro 1.5, with a DVC Pro deck for SD. The computer is a dual Xeon. Everything works perfectly for SD.

What I am putting together now is a system for capture and editing the HDV footage. I am looking at adding the Blackmagic Deckline HD Pro Dual Link capture card to the dual Xeon, and for playback and mastering, the Sony HVR-M10U HDV Deck. Does this sound like a workable solution? Does anyone know of any compatibility issues with this combination? Is there anything I need to know that any of you might be able to shed some light on? Perhaps you might have other configuration options that I could consider before going ahead with the above. Thanks for your help.

I don't think that there is a deck yet that supports the canon tape format. Good Luck, Jason.

From reading other threads here, the Sony and JVC decks will support 1080i but not the Canon 24F and 30F. According to the JVC deck manual, the JVC will up-convert to 1080i from 720p, but only in playback mode. You can download the JVC manual at JVC.com. Once there, click on the HD video link. The XL H1 is getting very popular, so I'm sure Canon will release some type of deck down the line. Right now it seems to me that they are trying to sell their Consol(spelling?) software first.

Sony deck works fine - unless you want 24f or 30f, then it's camera only for playback... This has been discussed at length in this and other forums and is the major drawback to the H1...

Thank you all for the info. As long as the Sony deck will do 1080i at 60, fine. I can capture from the camera for the options.

Now what about the Blackmagic. Does it work well with the Sony deck?

Thanks guys,
