View Full Version : Letus35 Flip with HDR-HC1 on Cavision Rods
R.P. Cuenco January 14th, 2006, 09:15 PM I got my Letus35 Flip in on friday to be betatested with the HDR-HC1.
I haven't had much time with it just yet due to work, but i have some pictures of the setup here on shutterfly:
http://rpster.shutterfly.com/action/pictures?a=67b0de21b33604dae49f
from first impressions, this thing is built like a tank.
also, the images that the adapter is producing isnt as soft as what ive been seeing from previous versions.
the vibrating motor is also barely audible, yet powerful enough to be felt through the whole rig.
i hate just telling you about it and not having footage to back it up.
i hope to get some footage on by tomorrow afternoon.
info about the rig:
Nikon nikkor-sc f/1.4 50mm lens
Letus35 flip
37-52mm and 52-72mm step-up rings
Sony hdr-hc1
Cavision RS-15IIM with 250mm rods
in the mean time, enjoy the pictures.
Leo Mandy January 15th, 2006, 11:44 AM That looks great. Can't wait to see the footage!
Evan C. King January 15th, 2006, 04:37 PM That looks pretty crazy. When I pick up once of these I'll be using it with both a FX1 or Z1u and an HC1. What I really liked before was the size I guess with it at that size now it can't be used on an HC1 without rods, am I right? Where did you get those rods and how much?
R.P. Cuenco January 16th, 2006, 08:31 PM yea, itll pretty much fall off without the rods. i got them straight from cavision (http://www.cavision.com).
here's the footage. very short, didn't have much time. alot of the footage was cut out due to inexperience with focus pulling. anyways, here's the link

Greg Bates January 16th, 2006, 10:32 PM Sweet. The footage looks good. What lens did you use? How do you like the flip so far?
R.P. Cuenco January 17th, 2006, 12:45 AM thanks. just the 50mm f/1.4. a little bulky at first, but you get used to it after awhile.
some stills here http://www.mindchattermedia.com/rp's stuff/
i dont know how to do a full res. frame grab. help!
Mark Wisniowski January 17th, 2006, 10:43 AM Great looking footage ! Thanks for uploading your tests ! Makes me want to call in sick to work and drive around and shoot some vid with my L35a ;)
Greg Bates January 17th, 2006, 12:38 PM thanks. just the 50mm f/1.4. a little bulky at first, but you get used to it after awhile.

You think its bulky there, try it on an xl2...handheld out the window.
Greg Bates January 17th, 2006, 03:19 PM I just really paid attention to what camers that is. For $1500 that footage looks truly amazing. Damn!
Anhar Miah January 17th, 2006, 05:46 PM Great footage, some questions:
(1) Is low light shooting (as in indoor with normal room lights) possible or is it too grainy/noisy?
(2) Did you do any CC in post or was that shot with Cineframe?
(3) Any plans of a Follow focus, and how difficult/easy is it too focus when in a run and gun situation?
Thanks in advanced
Anhar
Greg Bates January 17th, 2006, 06:46 PM Anhar, my experience with the flip tells me that the xl2/flip and low light...nada. The dvx100 and flip is a go. Seems like it may depend on the camera.
R.P. Cuenco January 17th, 2006, 07:56 PM thanks guys
anhar:
1) low light is pretty good, the letus is true in loosing about 1.5 stops. the hc1 is definetly touch with noise.
2)no cc and that was shot with 1/30 shutter to get the most light in, not for the look.
3) yes, i am planning to purchase dan diaconu's follow focus in the future, but until then, im practicing my "mad" focusing skills on the lens.

Does anyone know for sure if this is NOT a harvesting scam intended to compromise computer security.
There is a field which asks for signup details but does not work.
People here try to download movies and that function does not work.
Seems phishy to me but I could be wrong.
I have sent them an email asking for verifiable assurances. In due course I guess I shall find out for sure.
In meantime can anyone sugest an address to upload a 30mb mpeg2 clip of AGUS35 into HDRFX1 tests.
