Good ol' Frederic was helping me out with a project earlier this year (3 Sisters (www.904am.com/3sisters.php)) and gave me the basics. Mr. Wong is a great shooter and Frederic's editing and color correcting techniques are impeccable.

Looks really good, and I'm glad to see that HD trailers are really starting to take hold. (And I'm glad that my 1.6Ghz Pentium-M laptop can play at least 720p)

Did they use a DOF device for any of it, noticed their was some fairly shallow DOF in some of the shoots.

I'd love to take all the credit for the look but what you are seeing is really Kevin C. W. Wong's incredible skills. The guy is so damn talented as a cinematographer it's sickening.

The shallow DOP was accomplished by using NDs in order to keep the iris open as much as possible without blowing out highlights. Also, most of the shots are kept far away from the subject which creates a nice cinematic feel in my opinion.

I'll tell you, we spent most of our money on decent grip equipment, food and lodging. We felt it was very important to get nice camera motion with dollies, jibs, steadycam and a great crew.

The most important however is content and performance. The script was exceptional (written by Mark Hefti) and the performances were moving. Scout is a true talent and I think she's on the verge of exploding professionally. Mark Hefti is also another name to watch for. He has 2 films about to come out including this one.

As I wrap up some other things and re-work the script, I am about 4 months from shooting my second feature. The toughest part? Finding money after South Florida has been hit by 3 consecutive hurricanes.

1. Deinterlace in FCP or AE or Shake

2. Output Dialogue and picture to 25p uncompressed

3. Conform 25p to 24p using Cinema Tools

4. Remap Dialogue track to new 24p length (will slow approx 4%) with pitch correction in STP

5. Score the 24p clip

6. Generate final 24p timebase Targa Files for Film-out.

Hey...cool! My short "Harker" was shown before Vampire in America at the Newport Beach Fest!! Small world! :)

My friend's horror film, IN THE FLESH, was shot in 50i with CineFrame 25 on and then converted to 24p using Graeme Nattress' solution (it's written up in the new HDV book (http://www.vasst.com/product.aspx?id=ed515883-935a-4037-aef0-0ad68139e940)). It looks GREAT and we're hoping it gets into a few horror film fests!

Excellent trailer! Very nicely shot. I'm very excited for you and I hope the best with the film. I'm also very much encouraged too. I'm shooting a film next year with my Z1U (and Redrock micro35), and after seeing your trailer, it proves that (in the right hands) the Z1 can totally achieve that 'high-end' film look.

1. Have a great script.

2. Be skilled as a director (or hire one).

3. If you can afford it, hire a line producer to run the set.

Its even ignored by some bigger filmmakers... on our last shoot had a dp who was one of the types that only cared about image...

He always expressed the idea... you can fix it in post... I've never been in the studio world... so when I have a bugdet to meet I have to meet that budget... because I have to look at the whole picture (no pun intended) and make every department work for the whole production...
