After seeing and reading some of the reviews abou the new Sony HC1 and doing a bit of cursory reading about HD post production I'm wondering if I have the horsepower to enter this arena.

My system consists of a Pentium 4, 2.8 Ghz processor with 1 Gb ram. I have a 200 Gb WD hard drive (7200 rmp) dedicated to video and an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5600 graphics card. Currently, I use Adobe PRemiere 6.5 and realize I would have to upgrade to Pro 1.5 to do HD editing. For a display monitor I use a Sony 19" LCD Monitor (SDM-HS94). I use a Sony DRU-510A DVD burner for my final videos.

If I purchased the HC1 would I need to look at additional hardware/software to take full advantage of the HD video editing and creation? (I know there's no way at the moment to do a final HD transfer to DVD - tiem will tell how soon affordable HD-DVD writers will be on the market. Heck, they have to figure out a standard first.)

I have a slightly slower system than yours (2ghz) can capyure and edit to a satisfactory speed. What you should also use is a program called Aspect HD which works in conjunction with Premier to capture HD. The standard capture in premier does not work well at all on my system, creating lots of artifacts.

And there is certainly simple way to put the HD video on a DVD. Use DVD-ROM and play it on a AVeL Linkplayer2, or the new version licensed by JVC that also uprezzes as required.

Thanks both of you. I'd heard of Aspect HD and was planning on adding that along with my PPro upgrade. Hadn't thought much about the DVD so the tip is very nice.
