Hi,

My VX2000 hand strap is all worn out and fraying away. Does anyone know how to replace it? One end of the strap goes directly into the camera body so it doesn't seem to be easy to replace.

It's simple enough conceptually, as the strap is only attached with a single screw, but it's on the inside of the camera body, and getting to it requires some warranty-voiding disassembly.

If you don't want to buy a new stock strap and pay to have it installed, you might be able to splice a replacement section onto it, if the ends are still solid enough. If you get some self-sticking, 3/4-inch Velcro at a fabric shop, where they have long rolls of it, this makes pretty good strap material, if you stick two lengths back-to-back. If you got some strong button and carpet thread to stitch it on and used some shoe-goo to strengthen the attachments, you might put together a good enough new strap. You'd want to put in a lot of stitches to make it dependable. The ability to adjust its length might be a problem.

This suggestion is just the kind of thing I'm always doing, being a tightwad and not caring a hoot about how spiffy my equipment looks.
