Jipsi Kinnear December 21st, 2005, 07:43 PM An interesting article from The New York Times. For all filmmakers stuck trying to figure out what the/your audience wants. At least according to The New York Times.

Jipsi Kinnear January 2nd, 2006, 01:02 AM Another take on the "biz" today. Digital films will be the standard soon enough. I think it will happen when more "pros" decide to apply their skills to the digital format and when studios realize that they're not the "be all, end all" when it comes to release.

Jipsi Kinnear January 7th, 2006, 04:05 PM Yet another take on indie production and the struggles that arise. It seems that the once powerful and prestige term "indie" no longer has the same meaning.

Jipsi Kinnear January 19th, 2006, 06:48 PM Thanks Heath, I forgot to mention that.
Jipsi Kinnear January 28th, 2006, 09:12 PM A good read at www.boxofficeguru.com. Gitesh Pandya has been running this site for quite awhile, it's a simple read of box office stats and tracking. He has started a new column that will be focusing on 1 on 1 interviews with producers and studio execs and their experiences on the path to Oscar glory. The first interview is with John Singleton, producer of Hustle and Flow and how he slipped on the producers hat. He financed the film with his own cash. Old news to some, I know, but it's a good read.

oops...my apologies...that's the 2nd interview, the first one was with Brokeback Mountain producer James Schamus
Heath McKnight January 29th, 2006, 12:47 AM I'm a big fan of both www.boxofficeguru.com and www.boxofficemojo.com (which will do daily reports on the box office).

Jipsi Kinnear January 29th, 2006, 03:43 AM Hey Heath, do you by chance know of any site that's tracking "Bubble's" numbers. It's such a limited release, maybe too small for anybody to bother. On the other hand, wouldn't that be easier to track? And thanks for posting the correct link, my lazy spelling will be my downfall one day.
Jipsi Kinnear January 29th, 2006, 08:57 PM This is awesome. I live in Toronto and Vancouver and a local filmmaker that goes by the name of Julia Kwan from here has just won 'the Special Jury Prize in the World Dramatic category of the Sundance Film Festival for her feature film debut Eve & the Fire Horse'. Nice to see our indie industry is starting to get recognized.

Jipsi Kinnear February 19th, 2006, 10:59 PM Ok, this is pretty humbling. A 13 yr. old girl from Texas (the home base of this site I think) has just completed here FIRST FEATURE FILM. She wrote, directed, edited and produced with the help of a few grants and her parents. Go figure, a 13 yr. old makes a zombie flick as their debut. Check out her site and her imdb listing as well, and Ain't it cool has a write up on their site.

Heath McKnight February 20th, 2006, 11:46 AM Glad you linked that--everyone living in Austin, TX (I don't, unfortunately) should go support this filmmaker!
And when the DVD comes out, let's all buy it!

Jipsi Kinnear October 26th, 2006, 11:25 PM A month old...but still a good read.

Jipsi Kinnear November 5th, 2006, 09:20 PM Interesting thoughts about may be Hollywoods new direction. There's a lot of talk about what lies ahead in regards to the continued "studio system" vs. the crop of new digital studios that will popping up more and more in the not too distant future. Everything is about to be turned on it's head soon enough, and I for one am loving the new direction the production industry is heading in. Pardon the cliche but 'it's the dawn of a new era'. Borat of all things just proved that this weekend with a $26 million opening in only 867 locations, The Santa Claus 3 on the other hand was released in 3400 or so and only grossed $20 million. With viral marketing, digital media and grass roots campaigns the "indie" studio will only grow with popularity.
