After a bit of research this is what I came up with as a low cost HD monitor/tv solution.

So the goal: uncompressed 1080P HD displayed with the input being any format. 1:1 ratio for editing HD, SDI in...also for tv, any signal, 480i,480P, games, vcr's etc. This is where a 9000 plasma falls short ofttimes, in its scalers and deinterlacers ie dvd and vcr SD stuff.

Here is my solution:
Dell 24" (same as mac) ~$900
or Westinghouse 37" ~ $1300
with
iScan HD+ with SDI ~$1200
iSan VP30 with SDI ~$2000

I (and this will stretch my budget) am going to try the Dell and the iScanHD+ + SDI open box $1100 and dell 24" $900. So for $2000 I have a small video hub, good quality hardware scaler/deinterlacer, SDI-VGA-DVI-component-etc input, uncompressed output, ability to dial in aspect ratio's, refresh rates, scale, switch 480p,720p,1080P on a button.

Any thoughts on this setup as a tv?
