View Full Version : HDV Audio: What would you rather have.... Shannon Rawls December 18th, 2005, 03:03 PM 1. 384Kbps mpeg II audio that the HDV cameras can now record. or 2. 44.1Khz/16bit .wav audio? - ShannonRawls.com Douglas Spotted Eagle December 18th, 2005, 03:13 PM neither. I'll take 48k/16bit or 48k/24bit over both for better sound, please, Alex. (BTW, ALL DV, Panny HVX, XDCAM, VariCam, and most other dig cams are 48k/16bit) http://www.vasst.com/search.aspx?text=HDV%20audio Shannon Rawls December 18th, 2005, 08:09 PM Alex didn't say 48k/16 or 48k/24 now did he mr. contestent?? *smile* Alex said 44.1khz/16bit. Now...let's try again.... 44.1khz/16bit vs. 384kbps mpeg2 audio.....which do you choose? Douglas Spotted Eagle December 18th, 2005, 09:21 PM I'd still take the 44.1/16bit *IF* it's PCM, but you didn't specify the file format. If the file format wasn't PCM/uncompressed in the wav package, then I'd take the HDV over the 44.1/16 bit. Back to you, Alex? <big grin> Mark Grant December 19th, 2005, 07:31 AM Either way, if you're just recording dialog the difference is pretty much irrelevant. Music, maybe you'd hear some compression artifacts, but MP2 should easily be able to handle dialog without introducing anything that anyone would notice in the final mixed soundtrack. Certainly I've never noticed any sound compression problems with my HDV recordings. Kevin Shaw December 19th, 2005, 10:53 AM Certainly I've never noticed any sound compression problems with my HDV recordings. Same here. I usually encode the audio on my DVDs down to AC3 at ~192 Kbps anyway, so unless you're doing something which requires better I don't see much point in worrying about it. Others apparently feel differently, but that's my take on the issue. |
